Of our 16 losses, all were to post-season teams except for TCU and at Texas State.
Re: How many games will it take for you?Should we really be happy we lost to postseason powerhouses like UAPB?

Re: How many games will it take for you? Some of you guys are like scorned women. Dwelling on losses several seasons old, ignoring improvements from this past season. Who knows what this upcoming team will be about, but I know some are going to consistently dog the program, even if it's improving. 'We are the cupcake' jokes fit better a year or so ago.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: How many games will it take for you?Ok. Then let me just hope we can have a 20 win season before I reach menopause.

Re: How many games will it take for you?I honestly do not think it matters how many W's Doh gets, I think he is gone. He has had 4 years, and we have nothing to show for it.

Re: How many games will it take for you?
He was brought here to rebuild a program, that just dismissed it's black head coach, a very respected man in the local basketball community, and self-reported. If they get 18-20 wins next year, they can safely say the program is being rebuilt, just about a year slower then many of us would have like have seen. I'm not defending the length of this rebuild. It's been painful, but IF they get 19 wins, you have to weigh the steady improvement over the last two years, heavily. The sub-plot is that for Doh to save his job, he needs to coach this team up. They need to gel early and have sustained chemistry. All this w/a ton of new pieces, that are being relied on heavily. Simply, for him to get to 19 wins, he needs to do a helluva coaching job. Verdict is out on that “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. Re: How many games will it take for you?PonyDoh, you're a Doherty apologist of the highest order, kinda like I am for the Mavs, but I do respect your basketball knowledge. That said, I believe Doherty should've been fired two years ago. It seemed pretty obvious to me then he wasn’t the right guy. As a huge basketball fan, I had complete apathy for SMU basketball last season. First time that has happened to me in 16 years around SMU. I am confident next March we will be no different - .500 and in the middle of the pack in C-USA. Why should I feel any different??
Doherty’s name has done nothing to bring talent to the Hilltop – and that’s with the stunning Crum Center as a recruiting tool. He has shown nothing to indicate he’s able to get more out of his players with his coaching ability. Lastly, and most important, his record at SMU has been dismal (wins by year – 14, 10, 9 and 14) and a four year record of 17-47 in a very watered down C-USA. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: How many games will it take for you?Again. Everyone is getting caught up in the past. If SMU wins 20 games next year (which I am not saying we will) you are going to want to fire Doherty based on reults of previous seasons? That just doesn't make sense to me. SMU has won more than 15 games only 1 of the past 9 seasons.
Re: How many games will it take for you?
Then I think your opinion is a stupid one. Like I said in my initial post, even if you wanted him fired already, there is some win total that would make you want to keep him around. Someone may say that a perfect regular season and NCAA Final Four is their desired win total to bring him back, which I think would be a ridiculous bar to set, but everyone has to have some point they would want to bring him back at.
Re: How many games will it take for you?15 is what it will probably take for S.O.
For me, its time to reach the post season. What ever the # takes is enough for me. However, I just don't see it happening. The team lost 52% of its scoring from last seasons team. And that's 52% from a team that already had trouble putting the ball in the hoop. Also, losing your primary ball handler is also a major concern. "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
Re: How many games will it take for you?I can't really put a win total on what it would take for me to want Doh back. My gut reaction is to say the NCAA's or NIT. However, I wouldn't want to back into the NCAA's a la UH this past year (great for the school, but they weren't a tourney quality team).
More than anything I want to feel like the program is on the right track and has promise. If that's 16-17 wins against quality opponents and some tough close losses, while seeing some players improve dramatically as the season progresses (and not having a stagnant offense, whilst defending the arc), then I'm okay with 16-17 wins. I can also see us winning 20 games with most of those wins coming against our week OOC schedule, with no marquee wins, little improvement in player development, horrible perimeter D, continued stagnation on offense, and a first round exit in the CUSA tourney. In that case I would revolt if he kept his job. Last edited by RE Tycoon on Mon May 10, 2010 4:39 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: How many games will it take for you?
I haven't said one apologist thing in this thread. Quite frankly, I'm sick of losing and the type of PG hunt we saw this Spring. That said, we won 5 more games, and if we win an additional 4 or 5 more this upcoming year, he's made serious progress in two years. IF that were to happen, big IF, who cares what happened in the first several years? At that point, it was just a longer rebuild then expected, not some complete failure coming off the Tubbs fiasco etc. Doh controls his destiny, but he didn't exactly stack the deck. He pretty much has to get next years team to perform vs any schedule, good or bad, or it's over. No excuses. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: How many games will it take for you?Even the apologists know that he needs to produce this season. I think Steve-O will keep him if he has a winning regular season AND winning conference record and one win in the CUSA tournament. That would show improvement in both areas. If he has a losing overall record, but a winning conference record, and wins one or two tournament games, he might stay. In that scenario, the argument for keeping him would be that the first half of the season was gelling prior to conference play and the second half was what the team was capable of doing. I personally think that is BS, but its consistent with the way Doh has coached to date. In non-conference games, he seems to rotate players in and out more frequently than he does in conference games. One other tell will be the TCU game. If we lose badly to TCU, I could see that is a final straw that would prevent him being retained after the season ends. For me 16-14, 9-7 is the minimum.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
