Syracuse, Pitt, UConn, have all been mentioned, but they all have flaws or perhaps the top target said they did not want to leave the BE. The Big Ten might have an Iowa problem in that Iowa may be getting some heat to add ISU. Or perhaps there might be some interest in KU or OU by some of the schools (including MO and NE). Or do they do something so crazy that no one will believe it. Invite SMU.
the news report today says they have invited 4. They only invite a 5th if ND accepts. If ND declines they stay at 14. You can't issue the 5th invite until ND decides. They will not go to 16 unless it includes ND, too dilutive and closes the door for an eventual come to Jesus by the Catholics.

I assume the Big XII has to stay at 12 teams. The conference championship generates too much revenue for the conference to drop it. Of course, with some combination Texas, Nebraska, Missouri, A&M and Colorado leaving, ABC is renegotiating that TV deal anyway and the Championship game won't generate the same revenue. Still, I think whoever runs the Big XII doesn't even consider dropping below XII, even if it made sense.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

True. Even without Utah the MWC would be a more powerful conference than a decimated Big 12 (lacking Texas, A&M, OU, and OSU). The MWC could then add Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Houston. This would create a very nice 12 team conference.

yep, and I guarantee you TCU won't be doing us any favors. We are totally naive (as SMU has been for years) if we think they are an allie.

Wow it is really getting stirred up now. I know that the President and AD here at SMU are involved in all that is going on and is committed to the fray, but I agree as I can't see where we would be valuable at this point. Give us a few more years of success then we command more attention, but this activity now is really going to kill us. Unless we somehow became part of the new improved Mountain West BCS Buster Conference.

I have said before and I still maintain that SMU's best chance is to remain strong and await the next shift when other conferences expand to match the number of teams in the Big 10. The SEC may expand to 14 in the next several years, which could cause such a shift as to be beneficial to SMU. Patience is forced upon us.

Of course the problem would be a lot of what ifs. If we miss the boat this time, what will CUSA look like after the tornado hits? Will we lose ECU, Memphis, UCF? Our option is whatever is presented to us. We are not in the strongest bargaining position. We can only hope that someone gets too greedy and we are a bargain basement alternative. I suspect that our alliances with Rice, Tulane and Tulsa may be put to test.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

If it gets crazy, it will be everypony for themselves. And I wouldn't blame any of them for trying to move up.

The sins of the past continue to haunt us. Had we not waited 25 years to get serious about putting a winner on the field we would be in a much better position for all this stuff. Could be too little too late for us. However, we have a little more time. A nice 9 win season and a CUSA championship would be just what the doctor ordered.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I think that we have more history than many of the other potential big 12 members and with the commitment we have made to June, his 2M salary, and the football team, we are just as worthy as the next guy.

Its all about TV - and more importantly tv commercial time - and kansas state for example is basically worthless. SMU and TCU bring more then they do. Its not just bodies - its how those bodies turn into advertising revenue - so we have much more to offer then the average 7k student university.
That said it is an uphill battle here - and I dont think it is going to wait until next time - we need to buy our way in this time.
I think there is a better shot then many others - but not because of sunshining - it comes down to math - buy in dollars/advertiser dollars/high demographic in a big market dollars. Academics helps. We have a much better shot then Tulsa, UTEP, Rice and even Houston - due to dollars - obviously not due to on field success which is not really even on the table except when it brings eyeballs (ie - small USC delivers lots of viewers because their success on the field delivers a big market).
