That said it is an uphill battle here - and I dont think it is going to wait until next time - we need to buy our way in this time.
I think there is a better shot then many others - but not because of sunshining - it comes down to math - buy in dollars/advertiser dollars/high demographic in a big market dollars. Academics helps. We have a much better shot then Tulsa, UTEP, Rice and even Houston - due to dollars - obviously not due to on field success which is not really even on the table except when it brings eyeballs (ie - small USC delivers lots of viewers because their success on the field delivers a big market).
It does really count that we have the DFW media, and the viewers may not turn on just to watch us but whomever we may be playing at the time, and the have- nots want that, believe me. The timing is so tricky though......the fact that we have some strong $$$ sources will make us move up the chain, but wow this is one to stay on top of. Those schools you mention are below us for sure but they will be mentioned.

If you lose Nebraska and Missouri, that is the end of the Big 12. The next question is what do Texas and Texas A&M do. Do they head west to the Pac-10 or east to the SEC. I think Oklahoma and Oklahoma State follow Texas. If those 4 go to the SEC, what does the Pac-10 do? Pick up Kansas, Kansas State, Colorado, Texas Tech, BYU, and Utah?
There are hundreds of scenarios, but hard to see any scenario where Baylor is still a BCS school.

The big question would be whether the Pac-10 would want OU and OSU. I think they might be able to talk up TU and TAMU, and even OU (but that's stretch), but OSU is a tier 3 or 4 university. Its in Stillwater OK. It brings nothing to the PAC10 table. I suspect that the PAC10 would pass on OU if it had to take OSU with it. That's part of the humor in all of this. OU may be a team left without a home and they started it all when they sued the NCAA and got their freedom.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

As Dwight Schrute would say, FALSE. KSU at least has a presence in the KC market, SMU has a presence nowhere. Do you think more people tune into a K-State football game on Saturdays or an SMU game? They probably have 3 or 4 times as many living alumni as we do, and despite what you may think about the quality of education at K-State, the vast majority of those alumni have televisions and watch Wildcat sports. Hell, a good chunk of our alums would rather watch the Texas game on Saturdays.

If there are any SMU alums who would rather watch Texas on Saturday than SMU, they should have their degrees taken away from them.

What about those that like to watch UT and SMU games? I attend all home games and SMU handed me my diploma and told me to leave the premises so I doubt they want to take it away from me.

Unfortunately, I think this number would actually shock you.......but it isn't for a lack of trying. We could only expect people to sit around and watch sh*tty football for only so many years. I'm hanging by a thread with my basketball season tickets.

And it's only getting worse, especially with the younger alums. Ever since the SWC broke up, it's apparently chic to root for SMU and Texas.

I think numbers may be higher in older generation of real football fans who saw incompetence in the athletic program and lost faith in SMU attempting to compete. Go read the Rivals story today if you don't think things have changed.

just an example in a long line of examples of players SMU is now willing to wait on to attempt to get eligible. Its not the same program. SMU isn't pretending to be awaiting an offer to join the Ivy League. They are going after the types of players necessary to win. Prior to about 2008, a late offer meant the Highland Park 2nd Team All District kid whose Dad was Seargent-in-Arms of the Mustang Club.

agreed...especially in a position of need for us (and all teams really)...also saw that Baylor has verbals from 3 legit players at that position already, and some are SMU offers. Perhaps we can poach one.

The Pac-10 likes to talk big about their acdemic pedigree and big reasearch universities, but the dollars that the Oklahoma Schools would bring to the conference would be major. And it's not like Washington State, Oregon State, and Arizona State are what one would call top teir academic schools. I mean Arizona State is pretty much grad school for strippers.....dont believe me....see below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXQSL8FFBTQ
