If the film's main focus will be the events that led to the death penalty, then Pony Excess is an excellent title. It was what it was and should expose the average joe sports fan to what caused SMU to fall so far down, and that it was self inflicted. You have to figure there will still be 5 minutes devoted to our road back.

National exposure like this is nothing but good, most casual and younger college fans assume SMU sucks, has always sucked, and will continue to suck. This will show we once had a proud and feared program until we brought ourselves down and the steps we are taking to get back.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Leave it to Pony Fans to [deleted] about millions of dollars in FREE publicity. Could we ask for a better time slot either? Airing directly before, but most likely after the Heisman ceremony is a freaking gold mine of publicity. ESPN will try and make it a college football night and promote the hell out of this thing.

Regardless of the subject tone being good, bad or indifferent, this will give us HUGE exposure to recruits. I maintain this will be a bigger boon to SMU's football program awareness than the Hawaii Bowl.

THANK YOU RE TYCOON. Can't believe folks are actually worried about the name of this movie. Quite frankly I love the name Pony Excess. A beautiful play on words representing that era which is 30 years ago! Let it go, remember it for what it WAS and rejoice in the pub.

Regardless of the title, I believe Thad will create a film which SMU, ESPN and Thad can be proud.

Congrats to Thad. Well deserved honor.

Do you think Thad will remember us after this is done. Hopefully he will at least send us a post card every now and then.

As an alum who was too young to remember the DP and its subsequent fallout, I can't wait to see this. It was an embarassing, shameful, and inexcusable era of SMU football. No matter what we do we will always be connected with it in some way. Quit pretending it didn't happen and embrace that is well in the past and has absolutely nothing to do with the present and future of SMU football. Its the defining college sports scandal of the 20th century. The fact that there hasn't been a quality documentary done about it is absurd. Kudos to Thad and to ESPN for picking this up.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Don't like the name but I can not do anything about it.

From a person that walked on to play football his second senior year ( could not wrestle anymore ) I got stuff in my locker. really. And I was the guy that ran scout team fullback.

The only reason SMU did any of this was to be SOMEWHAT competitive to Texas and A$M.

SMU was just the small private EXAMPLE so Texas and A$M could stay in power.

Peace out.

I should follow up with the fact that SMU does a great job now, of running a good program and the kids get an education. Some do not and that has always been the case. But all you need to know is the last National Championship team at Texas... only 28% of those guys EVER got a degree.

We are doing it right and building a really good team.

Can I have your leftover posse? Never mind, I wouldn't remember what to do with it.
