Wonderful...you drop $110K for a degree and your college needs to pay people to hire you.

If you knew anything at all about what law firm recruitment is like right now you wouldn't be so surprised. Hiring is WAY down at firm's, even in Texas. And plenty of experienced people have been laid off and are also out there on the market. If you aren't graduating from a top 10-15 law school right now it is a tough road to hoe.

true. the industry lost over 12,000 jobs in '09.

though, many practice areas ARE hiring in this climate, inc. corp. litigation & transactions, regulatory & compliance, and bankruptcy...great time to be in those practices.

but still.

Yeah I know about the paid deferrals/ please go away deals for first years. I was at a firm where associates regularly ended up on never ending secondments (think 18 months+) dealing with all kinds of securitized crap. Kudos to SMU if this is a legit offer of help and not just some way to pad the hire numbers to rope in a new class of part-time marks. It would seem that class sizes need to come down substantially for a few years.

Made News of the Weird

Erlyndon Joseph Lo, 27 and a graduate of Southern Methodist University law school, was arrested in April after threats against a Dallas women's clinic that performs abortions. Police were tipped the day before when Lo appeared at the federal courthouse in Plano, Texas, and sought a formal judicial ruling that would protect him from harm, even if he were to use deadly force "to defend the innocent life of another human being." Dude am I the last one to see this?!?!??!?!??!??

"I accepted Christ into my life when watching TV. Some guys were really strong and breaking ice. They invited me to accept Jesus into my life and ask him to forgive me for the ways I sinned. I did so, and I was changed."

"Women are awesome. All females are awesome. All females are as good as all males. Any one female is as good as any one male. A person is not better or worse than another based solely on the person's gender. "

"I challenged President Barack Obama to a public debate on abortion, which he lost by not responding. He must have accepted my challenge before March 26, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Therefore, he lost, I won, abortion is wrong, abortion is evil, abortion must now and immediately be made illegal everywhere in the world, he didn't even care, he needs to stop kissing or hugging babies or even one baby acting as if he cared about even one baby, because he really doesn't and all he cares about is his image"

I actually think this is about where the economy is at right now. I graduated from the MBA program in May and there is crazy amount of under-employment among grads. Financial Analyst positions have expanded to say "BBA required, MBA preferred" knowing that the market is so terrible they can get an MBA at a BBA price. The MBA post graduation job assistance has been nothing more than group meetings about contact sharing and interview tactics. We are all qualified and know we will get the job done if hired. We just need the chance.......it just looks like the Law school is trying to get their grads just that.....a chance. I wish the Business school would do this too.
