We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!And is this not the most botched, disastrous off-season in program history??? I mean, look at all the crap that has happened, and we pay this guy half a million+ a year to be the CEO of Men's basketball?
Good thing for them we suck and nobody cares, otherwise the utter incompetence shown by Doh and the athletic administration would be exposed for all to see. Last edited by RE Tycoon on Wed May 26, 2010 2:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Taking Sarsaparilla wasn't a good move. I'm not going to disagree about that.
Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!Cal, come on, don't you see that its Doh's job to get us to Creighton's level sooner than later now, and this does not help. Once again, is Creighton still Creighton without Altman? Why would Lutz leave a supposedly high profile former UNC head guy who hired him to his first real non-Southland position and bail if we were on the brink of a turnaround? Creighton is not Kansas, especially without Altman.
Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!
I agree with that, but here the blame isn't wholly on Doh. If we would have been winning under Dement and Tubbs, Doh wouldn't have taken over a program that was a decent senior class and not much else.
Have you seen what McDermott did with Northern Iowa? He's the guy that set the wheels of that program in motion. IMO Creighton will be fine. As for why: more money and more exposure
Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!
lol, his wifes family is from the Midwest, and he'll make a ton more cash, at a program that has been better for 15-20 years. Don't be that reactionary guy that turns this into some fire doh nonsense. Doh will win or lose his job on his own merits this year. Lutz's decision has no barring on that. Guess what, Lutz was offered the OU opening two months ago and didn't take it, b/c his wife needed to be closer to her fam. How could a CUSA rc turn down the mighty Big 12 etc? Cause these people have lives, and they don't always revolve around Ws and Ls. Steve needed to get closer to Kansas City, that simple. Wish him well, been a tremendous foot soldier for the program, and is extremely loyal. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!i didn't say it was treason at all, but my vagina is saying its jumping a ship taking on alot of water. If we can't pay our key assistants anywhere near what Creighton can pay, as you say, then just f-ing forget it. We are done. thats so ridiculous its not even funny, especially as this critical juncture for recruiting with all of the schollies to give. Doh himself is getting paid then, but hasn't gotten this program the basic level of support from SteveO and the boosters.
Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!
Can pay, won't pay
Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!Why is this being treated as a tragedy and a travesty-this guy was the start of the wrong headed hires in the BB program-no inroads were made into Dallas or anywhere within a thousand miles except at Howard Payne or whereever Junior College Doherty hired this guy from. Bottom Line-he never really got the job done. This gives us the chance to make the type of hire Doherty should have made in the first place

almost everyone who left, left for a better paying job. People have this inflated idea of what we pay hoops coachs across the board. We're competitive, but not necessarily against hoops schools, even on a mid level, especially when you include shoe/tv/radio/camp money. Lutz works obscene hours and is never ever home. I say this in all sincerity, but the guy travelled more then any assistant I've ever seen, on any level. From a personal & professional stand point, he just hit it out of the park. He just did what you're supposed to do, and I applaud him for that. As an rc, he was never given the tools he needed, in some ways. Honestly, if lutz could land the OU and Creighton gigs, after year 4, he was gonna get the same sort of job next year, even if fired. Its clear his industry rep has remained high. This isnt about jumping ship, it's about making a good decision for family. If were Doh, I'd bump up Brown or Geary. He doesn't have time to acclimate someone new, unless he sells the farm to an AAU guy that can deliver the next day. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!Better question would be why the hell was this unqualified guy hired to be recruiting coordinator in the first place. If we can't afford to hire more than a glorified student assistant coach as a recruiting coordinator then we've got bigger problems than Doherty.

I am all in favor of this happening.

Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!
wow, what an incredibly awful and inaccurate take. Its blatantly clear that Lutz' rep is pretty unscathed by his time at SMU. If anything, he ascended in industry circles considering the jobs he's been offered lately. The blame lies elsewhere. He'll be in the NCAAs long before we sniff them. You'll notice, unless I have info, I stay away from the football boards. That reason is always clear to me when I read your hoops posts. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!OK tell me what in his resume prior to SMU or since arriving at SMU suggests he was the right guy for the job? Assistant Coach at Incarnate Word and Stephen F. Austin. Wow-that ought to get recruits excited. I'm sure he's your buddy but he hadn't proven jack prior to coming to SMU to even be a strong candidate for this level job. And quite frankly he didn't get the job done here either-so what are we crying about?

Re: We are losing recruiting director, lol this program sucks!!
LOL, that's a very legit Texas-based resume. He jumped from low major to mid major after helping turn around a perennial loser. Happens all the time. Resume's don't excite recruits in mid major hoops, personalities and being able to relate does. The guy had no help at SMU, and had limited if any hand in hiring his own foot soldiers. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building.
