They offered him within the last 2 weeks, are you really suggesting they are already tired of him?Mexmustang wrote:No question, we need more tutors for athletics, btw tutors are permitted by the NCAA. But, average players that fall 15 hours or so behind in four semesters of JC?

Re: New JUCO 2010 DT
Didn't that JUCO RB they tried to sign this summer have somewhere in the neighboorhood of 38-41 hours to pass during his last year before becoming eligible-I think you are going to see this until the program has been annually established as a strong program. Then SMU won't have to take as many chances with the last minute signing day academic borderlines and the summer stopgaps. That's happened with TCU over the years-they don't have to take the gambles any more. The day we can actually hold our own in recruiting against Texas competition is the day the shortcuts end.

I agree to a certain extent. However, the point really is that our program needs to be in a position where it does not need to depend on risks to fill holes in our recruiting, but can instead offer this type of recruit as a bonus if it works out.

Re: New JUCO 2010 DT
I am sorry to imply that they are "tired" of the player. What I was trying to say was they are tired of dealing with players that they have to stay on top of and then pray every spring they make their grades. It is only going to get tougher in college sports at every school. And yes, we are forced to continue to take academic risks if we want to get top recruits.
I wish high school coaches would do some coaching in the classroom so that their kids could be better disciplined (academics) at that level. My head football coach was the also the toughest English teacher in the school and tought senor English. In addition to serving in the First Marines in the South Pacific, he was the head coach, winning two city championships at one of the major Catholic boy's schools in Chicago. I thought I was going to coast through--I almost didn't graduate.

With spring semester over and no word on the board regarding this JUCO recruit, are we to assume he didn't qualify ? Any news regarding his status ?

That's all they had at Hawaii? Please elaborate on that statement.gostangs wrote:I doubt they are tired of that - thats all they had in Hawaii. We need to get used to it and make sure we have enough resources (i.e. tutors) to get them through school.

Regardless, Mason wasn't at Hawaii and several people have said the DE didn't qualify.
