My God... it's full of Stars

Post by Cadillac »

Rivals has Nlemchi and Yenga listed at 3 stars. 5.7 and 5.6 respectively. That puts Nlemchi at the same level as Fields from last year and Yenga mirroring Brandon Thornton from 2010.

Actually, Nlemchi is rated even higher than Fields in relation to his competition. Currently, ranked the #24 RB in the nation (ahead of UT commit Joe Bergeron, #30).

Houston in the early CUSA lead with 6 three stars signed for 2011, out of their 8 total commitments.

*Insert comment about star inflation here*

All kidding aside, I actually agree stars are being inflated (even though I still think we are still getting substantially better talent by evaluating players others may skip over and developing them really well)

Stallion - Since it is so early in the rating process, would you consider these 3 stars "legit"?

Yes-I probably would have rated them right about where they are.

This should only help in the future. Great stuff.

Add Conner Preston to the 3 star list as a 5.5. If he was 2 inches taller he'd have been snatched up long before now, so I guess we've really lucked out here.

Good point. Rivals shows SMU with 3 eventual 3-stars committed by 4/25 last year, and 6 eventual 3-stars committed by the end of June. Now, I am not sure if all of those guys had already been rated by that time, so perhaps at the time we did not know SMU had that many 3-stars committed.

I don't think they were 3 stars at this time last year. Greenbauer, Jeremy Johnson and Ricky Collins

I have to admit, I was just going on their final ranks and their commitment dates, but I couldn't resist.

I will say that Preston excites me more than Kaiser (in that Preston is called upon to throw the ball in high School) and if we can hold onto Nlemechi, we could be looking at the 3rd wave of crazy backfield (first being Walker/Rote, second being Dickerson/James), so I'm very happy with where we're sitting today, yet I have high hopes that these young men will get boosts in the ratings as their senior seasons progress, thereby giving even more credence to the talent evaluation abilities of this staff

It's still pretty early for the ratings system to sort itself out. A lot of good players aren't even on the radar screen at this point in the year because they haven't played enough yet (example Padron's rating because he was playing behind Riley Dodge).
