New DT Commit
Darrian Wright - 6'1 265lbs
2009 (Jr)
Tck - 73
TFL - 23
Sck - 7
He doesn't have ideal size, but he can grow. Most importantly, kid looks like he has a motor. This is a step in the right direct for our D-line, I like his highlights.

Anyone have any insight on his level of competition? I don't know much about Texas High School Ball. I know Maxpreps has him all-District 4A-19:

2009 Ponyfans Rookie of the Year
Re: New DT Commit
I don't know if he'll ever be a nose guard type like O'Guin, but he looks pretty darn explosive for a big guy. Could maybe end playing DE. The description on the Youtube video says he's up to 282lbs now, but there is no way of telling if that's accurate.

Re: New DT Commit
6'1" is ideal for a NG. The important question is whether or not he's got the frame to add weight without compromising quickness. If he's a 6'1" wide body and can handle 300 lbs w/o a lot of fat, then he's ideal. If he's 6'1" and not a wide body, you could have a problem. Add 10 lbs a year of muscle and he's 300 entering his junior year.
Too tall and you've got too much exposed body with bodies flying low at you, cut blocks are too effective.

NT all the way. Forget about weight on a high school junior-they are telling O'Guin like they do with all these 300+ DLM and OLM for the last 3 years to LOSE weight. They want to take the fat off and build the muscle on. Fat makes you slow.

Re: New DT Commit
Also from the few photos that I have seen from him, it looks like he has a very wide/broad frame that is ideal for a NT. I think is body suits the position very well, especially for a HS Jr.

I would agree. His picture on Rivals makes him look big. Does he play in a 3-4 right now?

Congradulations from a Frog fan on Wright. I know coach Patterson was very high on him, and was probably going to get an offer from TCU. Coach Jones and his staff is making it much more difficult for us in Fort Worth.

He does play in a 3-4 now from what I remember but has played several spots on the line in several fronts.

To answer your question 4A football is a very good standard of football in Texas.
