I doubt that's cited correctly as this site shows that they were hoping for 35,000 registered members worldwide by 2010 http://www.depts.ttu.edu/communications ... for-35.php

My feeling is that the 30,000 is the total in the area but DBJ's writer misstated it.

Yeah. Lots of Pawn Brokers and Security Guards.

Don't forget McDonalds.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

While West Texas is de-populating, it still has a bunch of state senators and state representatives in the Texas legislature. That gives West Texas, and in turn TTech, a disproportionate amount of political influence.

And with the Top Ten Percent rule, thousands of Dallas-Fort Worth area kids who would normally attend UT and A&M have no hope of getting accepted at those schools. Those kids now go to Tech, or maybe OU or OSU, Arkansas, etc.

Tech's enrollment has swelled, too. I don't have the numbers at hand, but I believe the vision is for Tech to be as big, enrollment-wise, as UT and A&M. With so many kids being turned away by UT and A&M, it could easily happen.

North Texas and Texas State are larger...I wonder how they compare academically?

The only good thing about all this Pac 16 talk is the image of those boys from LA LA land arriving at the Holiday Inn in Lubbock, having to chew on a tough West Texas "chicken fried" for dinner and having to return to their rooms and knock the sand out of their sheets.

Only problem with that us that the way they are structuring, the east division and west division will probably rarely play each other. I would imagine each division will play within their division and then a year end championship game between the 2 winners. With 8 teams in each division, they will need at least 2 games with cupcakes leaving at best 1 game with the other group. So they would play each cross division school once every 8 years. No way Tech for instance will send their calf roping team to Washington or Oregon for a couple of hog ties and then return. I think they will be basically 2 small conferences under one umbrella. Any Texas fan wanting to see southern California once a year will most likely be disapponted.

Now, what if, TTU got left out of any big realignment scenario? I would love to be on the Red Raider fan boards to hear how this is Craig James' fault for getting Leach fired. You just know they will blame Leach's firing on any realignment SNAFU.

Oh and any SMU fan in Lubbock this fall, if above happens, will be toast.
