SMU, OU, TCU, Alabama and Auburn fans will tell you its the recruiting sanctions that are program killers. You can go 12-0 but miss a Bowl-so what. Recruiting limits will eat away at a program and eventually lead to extended damage

I agree. 10 scholarships a year and free no sit out transfers for any Jr. or Sr. No bowl games for 2 years. This is more than a slap on the wrist.

that decision to allow kids to transfer w/o losing eligibility raises an eyebrow-are they allowing the kids on the "Payroll" to leave so they won't have a "Payroll to Meet"? Its never been done since SMU.

Most of the time the investigations take so long that the kids involved are gone and the innocent ones get punished. That is why I like this. Of course at SMU, we never quit paying, and that may be the case at USC but at least a little thought was put into not punishing innocent players by taking away their bowl game possibilities.

The talk here is that USC will set up a couple of exotic non conference games like Alabama did by scheduling Hawaii in order to keep the glamour of a Bowl type trip. That is something the NCAA should look into also.

As I posted a few months back, Mike Garrett had personally told my dentist, who were Baseball teammates at USC, that the sanctions were going to be "a lot worse" than anyone was anticipating and Garrett was seriously concerned.

Now that the shoe has fallen it is obvious that Mike was prescient in his private remarks.

Apparently a "Payroll to Meet" violation must be an unwritten requirement for successful Private "Methodist" Football programs to get slapped harder than most by the NCAA!

USC's saving grace is that LA has no Pro Football, and unless "Tricky Rick" can resuscitate the moribund Bruins, the LA fans will still look to the "Fighting Methodists" for their FB fix!

If UT and OU do the Pac-16 move I'm afraid it is going to be a long dry spell before USC again becomes relevant in any quest for an NC bid!

At least I hope the Ponies keep moving in the right direction as my "first favorite team" is going to be mired in Traveler's, Peruna's, and the "Two Gelding's" poo for the foreseeable future!

I suspect the penalty reflects a 3 sport involvement without institutional control. To our credit, we only screwed up with one sport. However, I bet the real penalty was soften because a girl sport was involved.

WHEW!!!

For a minute, I thought the NCAA was going to cut the number of Song Girls in their sanctions. At least we dodged that bullet.

Maybe this has been mentioned but I just heard that not only can the Jr.s and Sr.s transfer and not sit out, but they can be openly recruited by other schools.
