USC Juniors and Seniors can transfer w/o sitting out

Juniors and seniors to-be on the USC Trojans' football team, hit with a two-year postseason ban among other punishments, will be allowed to transfer to other FBS programs without having to sit out a season, the NCAA clarified to ESPN on Friday.

"The second school would have to submit a waiver asking to waive the year in residence, but NCAA rules allow for this waiver to be granted if a student-athlete's first school has a postseason ban in their sport," NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said in an e-mail to ESPN's Joe Schad.

The rule does not apply to freshman who have signed national letters of intent, however. But schools with an interest in a USC junior or senior are allowed to initiate contact with the player, Osburn said.
Clearly we would have to have some sort of connection to even have a chance. I wonder if there are any upperclassmen at USC that JJ recruited heavily while at Hawaii. Or if there are any from the DFW area. A guy who might never have seen the field at USC, or another of other programs, could come in and start for us on day 1 at some of our positions of need.

Senior LB from Skyline. Bio says he was a part time starter battling to get back into the rotation next season:

He can't transfer to SMU - SMU would not take his credit hours and he would be classified as a freshman again

The last sentence is the most important. Schools can contact the Juniors and Seniors directly. It is open recruiting for them.

By now, the quality juniors and seniors on this team are focused on going pro and USC is probably a better place for that than anywhere else. The role players are probably so close to getting their degrees that transfering would put them further away from graduating. I think if they were given a TV ban, some guys might transfer or if incoming freshmen, freshmen, and sophmores could transfer, you would see some guys transfer.

Senior tailback C.J. Gable said he would consider transferring to another school if he were guaranteed a starting job...

I'm sure we can offer that. I would feel better about this season if our two best RB's weren't true freshman. Get Gable and let the two frosh RS...this coaching thing is easy.

Makes you really wish McNiel had managed to pull off a decent draft position.

That's the kind of thing where are real hopes lie: Kids who can't quite crack the starting linup in UCS who could just destroy it in C-USA. And the Conference shift won't make a difference to Jr.s and Sr.s

How about Reggie Bush?
I'm willing to bet he never graduated.
