I don't see a big problem with A&M and Texas continuing their rivalry if Texas heads west and A&M joins the SEC. Clemson (ACC) and South Carolina (SEC) have a great rivalry and play each other in all sports. I would expect Texas and A&M to do the same, regardless of conference affiliations.

On a smaller scale, we haven't really had much trouble scheduling TCU and continuing our rivalry.

So do they stay or just use the new B12 numbers/Beebe to get even more $$$ for moving to new conferences.

UT told the aggies if they split from them they would not play them in any sport for a long time. More class from the Horns.

I doubt we'll know much more for at least 48 hours when the Boards start meetings. The AD and Presidents set table but the Boards make the decisions. Its going to be awhile before SMU's future is decided

I would love to see Texas A&M go to the SEC regardless of what else happens:

UT started backtracking the minute that the Aggies started taking interest in an assumed offer from the SEC. Now all of a sudden, Texas is all about traditions and rivalry. No, they are worried about where things will be in 5 years. I do believe a move to the SEC will help A&M. It will be ugly at first but over time A&M's recruiting should be on even footing with Texas (assuming in state recruits prefer the SEC over the Pac whatever) I could see A&M going to the SEC even if somehow the Big 12 stays together with Texas. The Longhorns were a big part of starting this mess, and now they are less in control than when it started. Be careful what you wish for Longhorn nation.

Sorry but If you actually think that Texas officials didn't know that all of this may happen, you are delusional. They knew exactly what may happen and what the consequences would be and all of them would result in a stronger money and future position for UT. Its called card playing and its working and they are still very much in control. You don't think that Texas could also improve its overall recruiting by now recruiting the very athlete rich State of California because they are now linked by Conference and have television connections to the whole western US?

Texas bluffs big. First, if Nebraska does not pledge allegence to the Big XII then 6 teams will go to the PAC. Well, they have the offers but no one has pulled the trigger and now there is discussion of sticking with the Big-XII? Wonder how Colorado feels? or how the PAC feels.

Now TAMU is looking at the SEC and again Texas makes threats to not play TAMU "for a long time" if they go there. Seriously??

I do not trust Texas at all and the PAC should have gotten that message too by now.

Texas legislature could always dictate that Texas and A&M continue playing regardless of conference affiliation

Thanks for the kind comment about my delusions. However, Ponyscott, you do make a good point. I readily agree that Texas had planned for most of the potential consequences including this one. But planning for and what they expected are two different things. I don't really believe they thought the A&M to SEC would gain the footing it has. It may still work out for them in the Big 12 with their own network or whatever in the Pac 16, but I do believe they felt (outside of a move to the Big 10) A&M would follow them whereever they landed.

Nothing personal CS, :-) as I just have to think UT has gone through all scenarios and have already had discussions with TAMU privately and know how they would react...and do they really care?
Just like attorneys have to know the answer before the question is asked so they aren't surprised, UT is playing this all out and there are no surprises, just Plan B.

None taken brother PS. :)

This whole thing changes by the second and is nerve wracking. #1 on my wish list is obviously SMU going to an AQ conference (hopefully in a reconfigured Big 12 or MWC with a good shot at AQ) Bonus wishes would include A&M and Texas breaking up and Baylor going to the Sun Belt or Siberia!

But like most here, I would be happy to be with Baylor in MWest or Big 12.

Oklahoma joining A&M in the Southeastern Conference would be hilarious.

All of the above....I agree. I just don't think the CUSA is long term arrangement and would rather see one of the above re-aligments with us involved somehow. I am not a fan of Baylor but I guess would be a good matchup for the future.
