SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?Where should we be angling?
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?1. Big 12 Leftover

Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?
I think the Big 12 leftover would have more of a shot if there was a leader to facilitate it. Someone as ballsy as...and this hurts to say..DeLoss Dodds. Who would throw the thing together? KU's guy is on the way out, Mizzou's guy screwed things up in the first place, SO I don't know-if the $$$ folks pull the strings maybe, I don't even know who Iowa State's AD is, UH's AD is busy promoting pictures of make-believe stadiums, and Baylor's people are too busy talking about the apocalypse that will strike the landscape because they're not going to the Pac 10.
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?All good points. Leadership anyone?
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?
I agree with those options. I think its going to take a good political AD 'broker' that puts the Big 12 together in some form or fashion as soon as the annoucement comes this week. The wild card still out there is IF A and M does go to the SEC, then either Kansas or Utah is the other option for the Pac 16. Utah is the favorite methinks and then the discussions really start to heat up and the strong emerging 'broker' should emerge to piece this all together with the remaining Big 12 and a few Conference USA teams and maybe a WAC team?......
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?Well said, Ponyscott!

Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?we need a new Big 12 - regionally.
SMU will be CUSASMU does not have the attendance or TV following to be an asset to any other conference than CUSA. If Baylor is being nixed for MWC, then a private school like SMU is stuck out during the collegte realignment. I wish things were different for the red and blue.

Re: SMU will be CUSA
Geez Sam have some faith.....its not that bleak.
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?a lot of people on this board are incapable of seeing the forest. No long term vision or understanding . Money in the coffers from a step up can mean a lot to SMU and to Dallas. Less debt, more and stronger overall programs ,substantially greater visability and national exposure and state of the art facilities. Couple this with the Dallas TV market and you have a very desirable product. Not overnight but a great, untapped potential is there. SO and the administration are on top of this and have been for awhile.
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?
The first step is the commitment from the President of the University towards a viable Athletic Department ( maybe a little late for us but its there now) a strong work ethic of the AD AND a strong loyal wealthy alumni base to solidify all of the above will make this happen in a positive manner. Compare or contrast Private schools like Tulane that don't have a current athletic financial commitment who will be left in the dust during this alignment. WE won't be.
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?As I said several days ago, for the Big XII leftovers, basketball and markets are going to be driving force and football a close second. KU, Missouri and Baylor all have solid basketball programs right now and would benefit from a conference that keeps their RPI's up there and still have decent enough football to garner a place at the BCS table. That's a tall order, but not impossible due to KU and MU recent football successes. They can keep the Big XII name and add up to 13 schools (probably too many), but that's the upper end. The key to all this is the BE and what schools leave the BE. KU and company may not want to commit to anything until they know if Louisville and Cincy might be on the prowl, or they go up to 10 and hold two open for later expansion choices. So, let's say they start at 10. That's five more teams. Memphis is a gimme. That leaves four choices. They need the DFW market and TCU by deciding its going to have a p contest with Baylor, is not going to be chosen. That means SMU. Houston is another choice. That leaves 2 open slots. They should offer BYU and AFA and you have ten. If LV and Cincy come on the market, offer them. If not, after TCU has been twisting in the wind, offer TCU and either Rice or Tulane and call it a day. This gives you a conference with ties to KC, St. L., Dallas, Houston, Memphis, and perhaps Cincy or NO. Not a bad footprint for a conference. It also reunites, Baylor with Houston and SMU. Keeps KU/MO as well as KU/KSU. Adds BYU and AFA. Again, not a bad alignment.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?You had me until Rice/Tulane. you would be better waiting for other shoes to drop. They are unreliable partners and would not add anything.
Re: SMU has to decide Big 12/MWC or SEC?Like I said, they would be last in after other options had been vetted.
