Re: WR says he'll sit out 2010 seasonNot to belittle Wilkerson's athleticism or catching abilities but receivers in this type system are a dime a dozen. SMU will be alright as there is plenty of speed and desire waiting for a chance to play. As long as the QB puts the ball within grabbing distance 9 out of 10 times the kids can go and get it or else they would be scholarship athletes.
Re: WR says he'll sit out 2010 season
But him having experience in the offense is the big blow. We are now down to 2.5 WR's that have experience with the O. I don't think it is the end of the world, but losing your top offensive targets (Sanders and McNeal) we needed all the experience we could get.
Re: WR says he'll sit out 2010 season
I agree about experience but McNeal is a bigger loss than Sanders was as far as being critical to SMU's success last season. Funny how that works because he did not get the love in the draft like Sanders. Having said this, if one more projected starting WR goes down or will miss the season for whatever reason I would then have a bit of worry. As of now, SMU is alright as it was before announcement.
Re: WR says he'll sit out 2010 seasonThis is a bummer for sure, but not insurmountable.
One of my 3 SMU degrees is in anthropology and I know more than a few of my professors are still there. My experience was that I had to show up every day, take decent notes, and have some productive study time to get an "A" in most of my classes. More often than not, just showing up to class, taking notes and reviewing them briefly would warrant a "B", and a "C" was possible even after missing some classes and not trying all that hard. Failing would be difficult unless one totally blew off class, did not bother to get notes from anyone, and never spoke to the professor to explain one was having difficulties in class or wIth a research paper, etc... Having said that, I wish TW the best and hope that he is able to reapply himself acedemically and athletically upon his return. It would be a shame for someone with an opportunity to get a degree from a well known university and work under a well known head coach to not take advantage of the opportunity.
