Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Here's my question: how did Dan Beebe pull a rabbit out of his hat and come up with more money for the conference to keep Texas, OU, and A&M happy? Not having a conf. championship game will cost them money, as will not having CU and Nebraska. Where's all this money Beebe is promising coming from?
And who would've thought four days ago that Dan Beebe would end up looking like a genius in this whole deal?
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!With this crew anything is possible. I just wonder if some SMU alum gave Beebe the numbers to keep the Big XII together.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!ESPN said a TV network saw the impending chaos and stepped in w/ an offer...Fox I assume

Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds to meet with UT coaches today to explain the salvaging of the Big 12, sources say.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Money talks, but.....How is there any trust after this? This isn't the end by any means. Married couple stays together after affair...Never the same and the jilted partner looks for an opportunity to screw the other one over. Kansas and others will have long memories.

Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!
Just heard on ESPN radio that Fox has offered an 18-year deal. $17mil per school per year. (Although I have also seen reports that say $25 mil for Texas, $17 mil for everyone else--can't imagine that will go over well with OU and A&M.) Thing is, an 18-year deal is ridiculous. Sounds like it offers stability to the conference, but when the SEC contract is up and gets triple that amount and the Big 12 still has a decade or more left on this contract, isn't everyone mad they are getting hosed again for another decade? And where was this deal last week before schools started leaving?
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Big 12’s TV pitch could save conference, stop expansion
'I think there’s a 70 percent chance of the Big 12 surviving,' a highly placed official at a Big 12 school said.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!
Believe I read something like OU, aTm, and UT would make closer to 20 mil while the other schools made a lousy 17 mil. But UT's 25 mil included the money they would make from their own network on top of the other tv contract.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Ah. That makes more sense.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!
Now the question is what do we call this new league? I propose the Texas's Ho's Conference--the THC-10 has a nice ring to it. I am also partial to Bevo's [deleted].
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!
The SEC signed a *15-year* deal that started last year, so they have 14 more seasons left on their TV deal. So, it isn't close to being a decade or more between the end of the Big 12 and SEC deals...more like 5 years.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Texas will get more money that the rest if the Big 12 stays together , count on that.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Id be surprised if the TV deal is that long. While the Big-12 has stuck together for now, I dont think this marraige is going to last long term. The super conferences seem invetiable, I guess we will have to wait till the next round of moving and shaking. I hope we have won a whole bunch of games and conf championships by then to put ourselves in a position to be in a big time conference.

The only thing I can count on in all this is a cold one at your new tailgate spot.
Re: Texas Staying in Big 12!!!Channel 8 news says Texas confirms that they told the PAC 10 "No."
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
