Hoop Fan,

I agree with you. There is too much garbage on the bottom end of that conference to gain BCS status in its current state. Should it lose Utah to the PAC 10, then they are back at square one. This, IMO, is our best option of improving our lot. Should Utah leave, the MWC is going to look to be proactive which could lead them to try and get to 12 ASAP. You'd have to think Houston, SMU, Fresno State, Nevada, and maybe Tulsa are going to be a part of that conversation. Strangely, Texas and its decision to stay in the Big 12 may have been the best possible outcome for us in this whole mess. Whereas there was ZERO chance of us moving into a better position a week ago, its probably 50-50 right now. Expansion is inevitable. We just have to maximize on our advantages to position ourselves in the best place possible.
Back off Warchild seriously.

and i might be alone, but i don't think more time helps us. Chaos is at its maximum right now, and sometimes the promise of sweet potential exceeds the reality of reaching that potential. no doubt we need more success and to build on it, just not sure the stars will line up much better or our potential will be seen as greater.

I see that view. However, I look at it this way. We are short on results and high on potential. Super conference realignment isn't going to happen this year or even next year most likely. This is a good thing for SMU. June is building this program into something special and by 2011 we are going to be one hell of a non BCS program. Hopefully we are improving attendance, working towards building an indoor practice facility, the university will be near the conclusion of its largest fundraising effort in its history, etc. Things will be coming to a head and if all goes to plan we should be a MUCH better position to improve our situation. I'm trying to be optomistic about this true, but I think had Texas, OU, OSU, and A&M left the Big 12, you'd see the remaining Big 12 teams poached by the MWC or another BSC conference and I don't see us sneaking in under that scenerio. With the current scenerio, the MWC stands to lose a flagship conference member and will be forced to make a decision to patch that gap w/ just one school or be aggressive and add more. We should stand to have a shot if they chose the latter.

The only way they get AQ status in my view is if the BE disappears. That is not out of the realm of possibility if the Big Ten jumps to 16 teams and raids the BE for three of them. That puts them at 5 football schools (UConn, WV, Louisville, Cincy and USF). Where do they go? To an expanded ACC? I don't think so. But if the ACC loses teams, there is no guarantee that they'll back fill from those schools, they may stay at 8,9, or 10. So, where do they go? CUSA?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
