False according to Salt Lake Tribune:

For about 15 minutes on Monday afternoon, the scramble was on.
A radio station in Austin, Texas, reported on its twitter account that BYU and Air Force would be invited to join the Big 12 on Wednesday. It said the Falcons and Cougars would replace Colorado (Pac-10) and Nebraska (Big Ten) and that all the Texas and Oklahoma schools were “on board.”
The so-called “news” was spreading like wildfire.
But it was not to be.
A few minutes later, 104.9 FM “The Horn” said that it “DID NOT report that Air Force and BYU would be two new Big 12 teams."
The station later apologized, saying someone had access to the account that shouldn’t have had access.
“We apologize, but it seems like someone had access to the account that shouldn't have,” it said.

Yeah the latest news out of Austin is that there will be a provision in the new agreement that prohibits the admittance of any new members.

This one makes the least sense to me. Big XII-2 Doesn't gain any access to new media markets. SMU and UH are not the hottest non BSC teams around. Unless the Big XII-2 can't poach off any other conference (MWC is hanging tough, PAC and SEC have expansion plans) thus they are looking to expand in a limited market. Of course travel cost for the Big XII-2 South isn't hit very hard.

it also coincided with a string of bad coaches and poor management

why would they sign an agreement specifically not to expand? are they afraid of themselves? makes no sense. why not just say it takes a unanimous agreement to expand or to change the bylaws?

Well. Texas & A$M has us (& everyone else) where they want us - outside the bcs-BS. When you think of it, why would any conference give teams like SMU a chance to "come to life" again? Why? Because they know we will. In time, we would be challenging them for conference titles & the works. If I were TU & A$M, I wouldn't want SMU or TCU in my conference either & I definitely wouldn't want them in the bcs-BS!

Nothing will change until the non-bcs-BS members decide to fight this - by taking it through the court system or whatever means necessary to break the cartel. But till that time comes, bend over for some more screw'n!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

If the Big XII-2 is intact and not expanding, then what happens to SEC expansion(if there ever was expansion planned)?

Is SMU and our limited sports a plus? We allow for recruiting with sports in Fball and Bball (men and women's) but we don't add to travel cost in all the other non revenue sports. Are we attractive because we have new market expansion in the revenue sports while limiting cost exposure in the non revenue sports?

This situation changes by the minute. Earlier I read something that made some sense about why SMU and/or UH might be invited. Now it appears the Big 12-2 will just be ten teams and we'll stay in the CUSA.

The good news out of this is that the Pac 16 didn't happen and probably won't happen.
In fact, the talk of 4 "mega" conferences is probably dead since the Big 12 refuses to grow bigger than 10 teams.

Having said all that... I'm sure next we'll get invited to the MWC and TCU will go to the Pac 10 and USC will drop to Division I-AA and....

what i haven't seen on this board yet--with all the smu to big 12 wishful thinking--is that texas has leveraged pac-x invite (plan b) into a very favorable new tv deal (plan A) and gotten a big 12 they can dominate even easier than ever. nebraska was a thorn to them in their conference dealings, and stood against the tv/revenue grab by the big dog.

hasn't it occurred to you guys that this was the gambit they were running all along? sure they ran the risk of actually having to go pac-x IF they didn't get compliance and docility from their remaining conference mates, but it was worth the risk. colorado loss wasnt much. no doubt they can now do pretty much anything they want, with less hissing by the goose.

There are way more stupid threads I've read on ponyfans. Hell I remember a conspiracy theory thread a few years back about all the "behind the scenes" work we were doing to get in the Big 12. Truly a joke. Also pretty much any thread started by biggin :)

I hadn't posted in a while and wanted to get in on this thread before it grows into a burger wars sized thread. While I would love to see SMU get into a BCS conference, I am with those who think this is not going to happen during this round of expansion.
