If we go MWC, TCU leaves, right? Like they left C-USA when we showed up?

As I said earlier, unless an auto-bid was attached ( and I think with Utah leaving the math isn't there) I would just say no. BYU and AFA are nice opponents (Boise didn't draw flies when we played them in Dallas). We play TCU anyway. Travel costs would be a curse and mountain time zone and western time zone games would push us further into irrelevancy.

I think it has more to do with national exposure. TCU, BYU, and Boise are all up and coming non BCS programs. If you throw Houston and us into the mix, that is a very nice top end non BCS conference. We would play several games a year on TV which would benefit the program. Traveling to ECU and Marshall is no easy chore either. We do what's best for the program. I think that would be MWC if indeed we get the invitation.

Comes down to money too. MWC has its own network, remember?

I just hope we have sent the Pac-10 and MWC commissioners each a nice case of Patron to calm their nerves after a stressful week.

Couldn't the MWC get the Big East's automatic bid when their deal is up?

It does, but I read (on the internet so it has to be true) the network only makes the schools 400k more than what we currently get. That isn't THAT much more, especially when you include travel. I guess you look at it, but if BYU and Air force leave, it isn't that great. Obviously if it is a AQ BCS, you take it, but I can see the BCS not granting them it. While it might be a step up, I would miss our "natural" rivalries, but you have to do what you have to do.

The MWC could apply for the BE slot, but at this point, they would be outside looking in especially with the departure of Utah. Again, there's another year or two before the review, but the funny thing is that the rules provide that the conference that a team enters gets their BCS points for the prior six years. So if the MWC is close in a year, they will start inviting whatever is out there to get over the hump. Luckily for them, Boise should roll through the WAC one more year. TCU should roll through the MWC. If BYU can slip into the top 25 and most importantly Utah stumbles this year, and UH or SMU can slip into the top 25, they might make it over the hump by inviting others. If Utah wins the MWC this year and Boise stumbles, they're toast.

It's all about exposure; the MWC might see an opportunity with the Big XII giving up it's championship game...if they feel they can expand to 12 and stage a game of interest. With SMU and Houston joining TCU, NM, CSU and AF in the southwest division and BYU, Boise, Wyoming, UNLV, SDSU and (Fresno/Nevada) in the mountain division, there would be a pretty good chance the conference could stage a game with some national interest...as a warm up game for the PAC 10, Big 10 and SEC title games. It would get a higher billing than the MAC and CUSA games, I would think.

It would be nice to play TCU during "rivalry week", except for the fact we would probably only have 50 students there.

Agreed. It's going to be a great atmopshere despite arguably being the toughest opponent on our schedule.

One caution, BYU, AF, CSU, Wyo will demand to be in the same division so that they can play each other every year-this is what split up the WAC. Note the problem with that. BYU and AF only once each every four years at our place. That means a solid diet of SDS, UNLV, UNM, TCU, UH, and SMU. Only question would be is if they trade UNLV for Boise to lighten their load in that division. Not that Boise has ever drawn flies in Dallas. So, you're trading Tulane for UNLV, UTEP for UNM, SDS for Rice, and TCU for Tulsa.
