I think A&M's recruiting would have taken a major hit had they gone to the SEC and the Big 12(-2) had still been around with UT, OU, and Tech. Granted, had A&M bailed, I think the house of cards would have folded, but I doubt they wanted to take the chance.

article has a lot of truth to it, but also smacks of a little bitterness that Texas ruined Nebraska's long term relationship with their old Big 8 rivals
I'm sure Texas was concerned about A&M joining the SEC for exactly the reason mentioned. They reall don't want to have to compete with all the SEC schools who would absolutely ramp up their Texas recruiting efforts...and would start by stealing assistant coaches from Big XII schools with Texas ties.
Bottom line is that this could really be a good move for Nebraska, especially if the Big 10 will allow them to play in a geographically aligned western division with Iowa, Minn, Wisc, Illinois and Northwestern. They will be a regular participant against either Ohio St, Mich or Penn State in the championship game.

I would guess the Big 10 goes Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin in the North. Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern in the south. those are balanced divisions and geographically sensible. Not that they could very easily (there are no UTs in the Big10) but they should have chucked Northwestern for Mizzou in a perfect world.

Northwestern is better at everything than Mizzo...don't downplay NW they are solid in both arenas...We should aspire to be them...

NW is not better than Mizzou at hoops. Is this the same Northwestern that has not been to the NCAAs in god knows how long? Also didnt Mizzou hit top 3 in the football rankings a few years ago. I know NW has some Rose Bowl appearances which were amazing. I like Northwestern, whats not to like, but for years the opposing fans have filled Disch-Falk and Welsh-Ryan almost like Ford and Moody. NW is an odd fit in the Big 10 always has been. They're just lucky they are the only small private in the league or they would have been run off by big brother a long time ago like SMU, TCU and Rice.

Colorado also improved its position. CU is in a conference where CU will be more competitive. CU will now have exposure in California. CU will be more attractive to California kids than to Texas kids.
NW has the advantage of being in the Chicago land area. THe 3rd lasrgest city in the nation was ample football talent and the Big X +2 enjoys exposure in a talent rich market. Mizzou plays were?
