Big !2 invites SMU & Houston

Dallas and Houston provide easy travel, great venue opportunities and access to large alumni for most of the ten institutions remaining in the Big 12. They need the spotlight Championship game and SMU and Houston are the easy answer.

My source says look for announcement coinciding with the press conference announcing that Texas/ and A&M are staying together for the fans/tradition etc. and to that end we are re-uniting with some of our old conference mates that happen to be two of the most up-and coming programs on the football scene today.......SMU and Houston will be unveiled at the press conference

Listening to the UT press conference now. So far no unveiling of SMU and UH as the newest Big 12 additions. Or mention of their up-and-comingness for that matter.

Perhaps the Big XII-2 has not had time to think about expansion. The Big XII-2 was about to implode. In the 11th hour Texas saved the day (after just about destroying the conference). There is something pathological about UT creating chaos and then claiming to be the savior. But that is a different topic.

One could assume with UT's intent and others’ to head west, that UT and others didn't care that expansion might be a possibility. CU intended to leave as did NU, UT, OU, OSU and A$M. With so many conference members dead set on leaving, why would any of them consider expansion? The leftovers, KU, KSU, ISU, MU and BU may have considered expansion but what voice do they have now that the big boys decided to stay put?

The reality now is the Big XII-2 has been poached by other conferences, is now stripped of a Championship game (pure revenue) and hasn't had any key (Meaning UT and other big programs) members working on expansion.

If that is remotely an accurate assumption, then it makes sense that discussion of expansion and mentioning of possible teams would not be occurring at the press conference.

To add to that, I loved the DMN headline that read something to the effect of "UT Saves the Big 12." What a bunch of orange-lipped butt kissers.

Now that the DMN has made that investigative comment...I can finally cancel, knowing that they bring absolutely no editorial or publishing value to the Metroplex.

Word on the street from a few days ago likely wrong... if SMU goes to the Big XII nothing I have heard includes the Coogs. I've been wrong before.

If a Houston school is added Rice is seen as more likely due to (can you believe it?) academics.

Again, I still don't see anything happening this summer.... but we have a long two weeks ahead of us.
