IPP,

yep.

The SEC made the potential 16 team super-conference pause, but the money is still out there, and the Big 12 is at best a temporary patch on fractured relationships. Wisdom (and history) would suggest that the Big 12 schools should get their house in order for the day that UT says adios...Texas threat to no longer play an SEC A&M was met by a shrug from most aggies...alums wanted the game (I mean, what do you do with the War Hymn? 'sawing 'Bama's tusks off?') but folks in the aggie AD were outwardly indifferent(great schtick), and UT began sounding retreat when they realized A&M WOULD walk a different path. Don't think for a moment this wasn't/isn't a burr in Dodd's saddle...he will ditch the Big 12 and A&M in a split minute if it is financially beneficial in the coming years.

SMU is athletically TCU 10 years ago (not in sports programs/baseball etc, but emerging from a black hole)...we are not in a place to negotiate for an upgrade...yet. While we have many other assets that the Frogs do not, the athletic structure is still miles away from Big 12 competitive levels, and maybe even from MWC status. This brief (2 years, IMHO) hiatus will give us a chance to revise our limited bargaining position to something more on the equal of where TCU is...then comparing the benefits of a D/FW private school may come out in our favor.

In the interim, what does CUSA do? That should be a pressing question for today.
