Reinvest money into what we have now instead of adding baseball

Would I rather have a struggling baseball team over a nationally competitive men's soccer program?
Absolutely.
College soccer gets ZERO play in the media. It also runs concurrently with football season, so there's even less of a window for a school to maximize exposure with its soccer program.
SMU falls off the sports media map after basketball season. There are no team sports in the spring that people can follow.
Having a nationally competitive soccer program doesn't impress anyone, especially in this state. NOT having baseball does get noticed. I've been asked a thousand times, "Why doesn't SMU have a baseball team?" No one ever asks me about SMU's soccer program, no matter how well it does.
I'm not saying this to run down the soccer program, which has been one of the few programs to instill some SMU pride over the last 20 years. But facts are facts. If we have X amount of dollars to spend on a men's non-revenue sport (although I argue baseball can generate revenue - just look at the baseball stadiums at TCU and Baylor) we would get more bang for our buck with baseball. It's simply an exponentially more popular sport in America.
And with Schellas gone - and the continued decline of nearly all of our non-revenue programs - I have my doubts about the soccer program's ability to continue to play at an elite level. I don't have any great hopes about an SMU baseball team ever making the CWS, but if private schools like Rice, Baylor and TCU can field competitive baseball teams there's certainly a model SMU can follow - not to mention some instant rivals.

Just so I get credit on being right here.....
That is dead on with the E.S. draft pick and this...Wish I knew what was happening to SMU...
Even a Broken Clock is right two times a day! Maybe an SMU prediction might come true as well!

The MWC will take a good look at Frenso State if Utah leaves.

I agree. If I were AD I would dump Men's swimming and soccer and add baseball and track. I understand that I am bias because I ran CC and track at SMU, but anyone can tell you that baseball and track are much more visible. Performance is obviously not the reason for fielding a team at SMU as Men's track was historically and consistently the most successful sport at SMU up until the day it was axed. Our 3 national championships are in men's track. I believe we have 1 in men's golf if I am not mistaken.

XC, you pushed the wrong button. As a Division 1A school, we should be adding teams like track & field, plus your CC. NOT subtracting teams (small thinking). Swimming & Diving has more alums, ex-swimmers who are more active in supporting the entire university, including a member of the Board of Trustees, and has the strongest sporting tradition in the school, # of Conference Championships, Olympians, All-Americans, wins, ...........etc. I love Track & Field and want you back, but your premise is wrong.

The key for those who want to add sports is to start raising money to fund them. Start recruiting ex track members for money to endow a track coach and travel for men and another small women's sport (like shooting or my personal favorite beach volleyball). About $10 Million. For baseball and softball (and again 1/2 a sport for women - like beach volleyball), try to hit up some of George W's friends from his Texas Rangers days for a stadium, endowed coaches, and endowed scholarships. About $600 million should suffice.

I have a better idea, since this is only about money and promoting football and probably basketball. Delivering a university degree with extra-curriculum, such as the developing character with sports, must be overrated (unless it is FB or BB) and not be important.
Solution, add up the scholarships necessary to support FB and BB, offer women sports a equal number of scholarship in sports of their choice (any number or combination), due to Title IX. Then, eliminate all non-revenue/Olympic sports for men. Turn AD into a marketing arms for men's FB and BB, plus nice web-site the remaining women sports. Save money and eliminate the hassle of developing men, who integrate athletic sports into their college days, get degrees, and have second careers as contributors to society.

Here's an idea: Repeal Title IX for the piece of communist crap that it is and allow the actual interest levels of the female and male populations to drive access to sports at the university level.

Don't you realize that well expressed logic is anathema on a primarily FB fan site? Why have well educated contributing graduates when a "Mythical" sports championship last for one whole year?
