Any rumors about SMU going to MWC

Postby Billy Joe » Wed Jun 16, 2010 4:54 pm

Has anyone heard anything or does MWC stay with current members? If MWC picks up SMU and Houston then they have 12 teams and can have a conference championship game. I am not sure adding SMU, Houston, or Fresno St. for that matter increases the chances of getting BCS status.

I thought it was already announced that SMU and Houston to the Big XII was a done deal...

I have only seen thread rumors, no real rumors. The MWC board has a few. But I think the general consensus on their board is if a school doesn't help you get aq bcs, then why bother. Their TV sucks and why we could help with DFW and Houston could help deliver well......Houston....not sure they would gain that much more money if they in return had to split the pie up more. But who knows, Utah was a blow to them, so maybe they will try to respond. I'm sure TCU could use a little help in the travel department, but over on there board there is a mix of emotions about adding us too. Some feel we are on the rise while others see us as dead weight and us getting a MWC bid would only make recruiting harder for them.

Do we really want to trust our future to BYU and TCU, both of whom tried to screw us over in the past 15 years? I'd rather stay in CUSA and try and dominate it and then maybe people will notice us. People are noticing Boise because they go undefeated in the WAC (where we had a losing record) and because they have that nauseating blue field. If run the table one year and win CUSA regularly, we'll get noticed. Remember CUSA does have several major media markets and at least has some eastern exposure.

Everyone is going to be bailing out of CUSA when they can. I'd rather be in a conference with people who try (TCU, BYU) than stay in CUSA while it slowly becomes SunBelt-II.

unfortunately there is a not a legit core of schools who lead CUSA. The closest thing is Memphis in basketball only and they arent committed to any of the rivalries. Every conference needs at least 2, 3 or 4 schools who lead the way and you can count on being good in football year to year that push each other and everyone else is shooting for. the real problem with CUSA is the teams are up and down from year to year and all over the place with no identity. The MWC has BYU, TCU and now Boise as a strong core. CUSA has no core, yet. and its getting too late.

If Memphis and Central Florida leave C-USA, then the conference will lose much of its value. If the MWC ever wishes to add a school such as Houston or SMU, it is in their best interest to do so before C-USA spirals out of control and the value of SMU and Houston is damaged.
