For those who don't subscribe to the other sites, it is left guard Josh LeRibeus who is academically ineligible and is going to sit out the fall semester. LeRibeus will remain in school and practice with the team but will be ineligible to play in games.

LeRibeus said an appeal of the decision was denied, so after redshirting the 2007 season, he will have one year of eligibility remaining when he returns to full eligibility. He said his family and teammates and coaches were disappointed but supportive of his pledge to continue working out this summer and to practice with the team in the fall, and said he will spend the summer and fall trying to continue losing weight. He has lost about a dozen pounds in the last couple of months, to get to 340, and plans to lose more in the fall.

LeRibeus said he didn't know who would take his spot in the starting lineup. "I haven't talked to (offensive line) Coach (Adrian) Klemm about that," he said.

One of the candidates, he said, likely will be redshirt freshman Jordan Favreau. If he gets the nod, LeRibeus said, Favreau can do the job.

"He has come a long way," LeRibeus said. "Look at how much bigger and stronger he is than he was a year ago."

LeRibeus also said that whoever replaces him in the starting lineup will benefit from joining what is now becoming a veteran offensive line.

"You've got a lot of smart, experienced players in there, with 'Beach' (left tackle Kelvin Beachum, Jr.), (center/guard) Bryce (Tennison) and (right tackle) J.T. (Brooks). Whoever it is (at left guard), as long as he has Beach there telling him what to do, he'll be fine."

LeRibeus is the fifth 2009 starter who will not be playing in 2010, joining wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, center Mitch Enright, running back Shawnbrey McNeal and wide receiver Terrance Wilkerson. Nevertheless, LeRibeus has every confidence in the offense's ability to remain potent.

"As long as (quarterback) Kyle (Padron) is in there, we'll be OK," LeRibeus said. "He still has weapons, and he just doesn't panic. He protects the ball, and he makes plays. Plus, he has a year in the system and a spring behind him — he'll be a lot better. With him in there, the offense will be fine. (Head) Coach (June) Jones's offense has always scored points, and it will score points this year, too."

GO TO CLASS AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
DAM guys.... IT IS NOT THAT HARD.

At times I would love to have 5 minutes behind the shed with a belt and knock some freaking .......

I see this as a lack of effort for the team and personally, looking out for their own best interest.

240K FREE education and... I can't wake up or can't do the homework, or can't study for the test.

GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK.

BTW - If those jobs open up to help the players make their grades.... I want one. :x

Don't know what happened here. Josh is a good guy, had lots of other great offers, but chose one that would really let him be a student athlete. He came to SMU because they would support his desire to major in engineering, so he's got the smarts to get the job done. While it certainly hurts the line to not have him this fall, I wish him the best and hope a semester of soul searching and application to his studies finds him back where we need him.I know you'll be reading this Josh, so hang in there.

Which O-lineman was thinking about leaving the team, I think it was before or during last season? Was that Josh?

Thanks for the report, PonyPride.

Josh is a terrific young man and a terrific player, with a ton of potential. Get those grades in order, come back strong and kick some major tail in the spring, and in 2011. Do what you need to do, and your future remains bright.

Some of this might be laziness but I suspect our kids aren't getting either special treatment or all easy classes similar to our competitors...needs to be a level playing field or lets just drop to DIII and play Austin College, Trinity et al

San Antonio Mustang: "All it takes is the Coach insisting on the athlete asking for academic help and tutors who not only can teach the subject matter, but can help the athlete overcome that "I am too dumb" attitude. It is part of committing to being successful."

Well said, San Antonio!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

This is becoming an absolute joke. It sounds like there could be even more on the horizon if they don't step it up in summer school. Safe to say, my expectations for this coming season are becoming far less lofty. We just don't have the depth yet to overcome the immaturity of these kids.

Honestly, didn't anyone anticipate this when JJ came as coach? His record at Hawaii was quite clear, and was bound to be repeated here. BUT, academic requirements here are way beyond what they were at Hawaii. JJ has to recognize this and be more careful with the recruits he signs up.

A number of the guys who have had academic problems were here before JJ was, so I do not think you can blame it who he recruits.

I haven't been keeping up, can we get a full list of the 6 players?
Should we give up the season already? Is the season over?

No, but thanks for asking.

Play on and win. But to grow as a team the playerers have to stay in school and get the education they were offered.
