I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Carlton says the Big 12 will not add SMU,TCU or HoustonLOL!!!
Couldn't have said it any better myself. Furthermore, I just love the new name someone came up with for the Big XII, or i should say - the big two & little eight - "LOU Conference" BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Carlton says the Big 12 will not add SMU,TCU or HoustonI don't think the "power-brokers" in the Big 12 are gonna make the same mistake the SWC made by adding Houston back in the '70's. Houston came right in and won the SWC in football in their first year and several other championships in football while also having the Phi Slamma Jamma fame, Carl Lewis in track and very good baseball teams. UT disappeared by and large. Ark and AM were dominating and going to the Cotton Bowls. They are not going to give up their recruiting advantages in Dallas, Houston and other areas in Texas to kids who want to play in the Big 12 and might consider UH, SMU or TCU. It is not about winning and competitive teams...it is about money and recruiting and feeding the huge fan-bases of UT, AM, TT and keeping the competitive edge. Why take their foot off the throats of their in-state brethren? I still say we need some legislative action to break up the monopoly. Baylor should not be the only one.
Re: Carlton says the Big 12 will not add SMU,TCU or HoustonI was hoping that SMU might once again get into Big 12, but really would it be worth it? Front end fees, penalty fees to the CUSA, half-share of the" little boy"s annual revenues for a number of years in a conference that is poised to breakup in three to five years. CUSA is not our long-term solution, but some mix of the MWC and CUSA may prove a powerfull conference that can challenge every other school but OU and UT remaining in the Big 12, er 10 or 1.
Re: Carlton says the Big 12 will not add SMU,TCU or HoustonI personally believe that we need to lead the way for CUSA to improve itself to simply just be better than the MWC and the BE. That can be accomplished in three ways. (1) Schedule the toughest BCS games that are winnable to increase conference RPI; (2) beat MWC teams when we can (for us TCU); (3) beat BE teams when we can (Marshall, ECU, UCF have BE games on their calenders). If CUSA improves it OOC performance, then perhaps, we can auto-bid simply by beating out the BE and the MWC. Let's take control of our own destiny instead of waiting for UT, A&M, Baylor and TT to suddenly find honor.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
