Texas was using the PAC-10's interest to panic Baylor, KU and others to buckling under and to chasing off Nebraska. Not sure they expected Colorado to bolt early. But, clearly no huge loss there for the Big XII.

I'd say over the last 8 years Tech is a top 30-top 35 program and OSU top 40. I was basing my rankings more from a traditional POV. Like if you look at the Pac-10 over the last 8 years, you could argue that Oregon State and Cal are top 25 programs but I would not list them as traditional top 25 powers. Heck, over the last 8-10 years A&M has been nowhere near a top 25 program same with Washington. But traditionally, I'd say they are top 25 programs. But that is just me.

I just read the article again. Hmmmm. Quite good.

Just another reason Texas wouldn't want a resurging SMU in the LOU Conference. I like how the author referenced the other teams as their "weak sisters". I really believe that we 'could' give them, Texas, a run for their money IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE. IMHO, if we have any hope of 'ever' joining the LOU, it'll be after Texas leaves which could be in the forseeable future. You never know anymore?
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The article is stupid.

Texas didn't want to chase off Nebraska or CU for that matter. Colorado jumped the gun thinking that Scott's plan to start a stampede would work. It didn't and now the Pac-12 is sort of stuck with a Colorado that has a slipping football program, a weak baskeball program and no baseball at all (baseball is big in the Pac-12). Also, this talk about capturing the Denver TV market by adding CU is just talk. The Denver market is primarily a pro football market. It is laden with people from all over the country -- including transplanted Texans and UT exes -- that are not tied to the Buffaloes.

Utah is a better add than Colorado.

Texas got exactly what is planned to do all along, bounce Nebraska and Osborne, do away with the playoff game and double up on the revenue cut.

this article is a joke. I wish pony fans would spend less time whining about texas.
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

You'd be hard-pressed to find many students on campus that find being a UT fan at SMU to be a problem.

I sincerely doubt that this is what Texas wanted, for no other reason than this is a temporary solution. When the CU-NU exit money has been spent, the TV contract comes up for renegotiation, and there still is no championship game and the revenue and publicity that comes with it then that will be make or break time. Texas will be forced to decide then whether to leave the conference or expand it to make it work, because it can't continue on for very long as it is now. I guarantee you Dodds knows this and came to this short-term solution possily for political reasons, whether from inside the school or from without.

Well what did they want? They entered into negotiations with the Pac, knowing full well that the Pac would neither allow them to have their own network and an uneven split of TV revenues. They knew that their present deal with the Big 12 was actually a better financial deal. They were only trying to get a better deal from its own conference mates on what they knew would be a new TV contract whose negotiations were already underway. Mac Brown was very vocal about his dislike for the conference playoff game for years--it is a major obstacle to the championship game and not that big a money maker. You are right, the Big 12 is unstabble, and expect more changes in 3-5 years.

Absolutely agree with you on the idea that they were looking for a bigger piece of the pie. No issues there.
But I don't believe they wanted CU or NU gone. I don't think they had much of a say in it, being as that the Big 10 could offer so much more money, and apparently NU has always wanted to be there. These schools leaving will affect the conference in the long run, especially if viable replacements can't be found, and Texas has to know this.
Furthermore, Texas has had to look at the possibility of A&M going to the SEC and that has to doubly scare them: the conference loses one of its powers thus making it even weaker, and the SEC and A&M both get stronger (I think the absolute best thing for A&M is to end up in the SEC).
I just don't believe that Texas got all they wanted.

I very much agree that they didn't get "all they wanted"--they will never be satisfied, which makes them very unsuitable conference partners. They will never understand the concept of partnership and a number of big schools now see them as "troublemakers", not somone they want to deal with.

The Pac-12 already has an uneven split of its TV revenue with the power teams getting a larger cut.

I doubt Texas ever wanted to go to the Pac-12, but I also doubt they wanted to run NU or CU off, either.
