Insiders tell me Doherty isn't calling the shots on this hire for Lutz replacement. SMU insisted on using the search firm Eastman and Beaudine to handle things. Not great news for Doherty if he isn't being allowed to hire his own man at this point...but with all the turnover he has had its hard to blame SMU for taking a different approach this time around.

This search isn't nearly that important. They are just looking a for an old X & O guy. They new guy won't have much, if any, recruiting impact. Also, I've seen the list of the final 3 candidates and there is no way a search committee picked them. Pretty much all of them are old NE guys, or spent time on the bench w/Doh. We've done away w/the recruit coordinator label, but Brown is probably the closest to in charge

Categorically false. A person with knowledge of the situation stated that the search committee was being used and this isn't Doherty's outright hire.

A search committee very well could be involved in this hire. All I'm reading here is that based on the final candidates, the search committee did not have as much influence as it appears that Doherty may have, considering they are all NE/former Doh guys.

"Categorically false" may be a bit incorrect on your end.

FWIW, I've never ever, in all my years, heard of a search committee for a light recruiting assistant. It makes no sense. The search committee will cost close to the actual hires eventual salary. Beyond that, all the candidates are Doh guys, out of his past etc. Several of them have been out of coaching for a year or so. Did our search committee recommend guys at finance firms, cause that's partially what we're looking at.

So, I'm not saying we didn't hire a search committee. I'm saying that if we did, Orsini is a bigger hoops turd then I thought.

Pony Doh,
Just curious but how did you get to see "the list" of the final three candidates?

If they don't trust Doh to hire an assistant they should just let him go. I find this hard to believe.

FWIW, I just looked at the online posting; it doesn't reference Eastman and Beaudine. I recall that the football HC position specifically did.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I worded that poorly. I've been told by a few different people, both in the industry, and 'close' to the program, who we are looking at. Five names were already public via Rivals, as well. My list varies slightly from rivals, but it's all the same ball park. I haven't seen any names leaked on this site, but there are plenty out there.

that is asburd to hire Bob for this one. Most of his placements would be 20-30% of the base salary.
..unless he charges a less fee due to his relationship to SMU.

Can't Doh just make a few phone calls, I find this really strange.

"Then" and "than" do not mean the same thing. They should not be used interchangeably. "Than" is the word you want when doing comparisons. But if you are talking about time, choose "then". "Than" rhymes with pan; "then" rhymes with pen. "Another" poster on ponyfans uses "then" exactly the way you do... interesting.
