Beating Tech would be great but as far as rankings go a followup Tech victory over UT a few weeks later in Lubbock would propel SMU into the top 20 and provide huge momentum.(UT plays at TT, OU and at Nebraska in consecutive games with a young QB and some unproven people. Beat an unbeaten top 10 TCU and SMU would skyrocket.

If we beat Tech, UAB, WSU and TCU to start the season, Stallion will finally concede June Jones was a better choice than Franchione.

If we were to luck out and beat Tech, Pony 94 would probably streak down the boulevard, singing "I am Don Quixote, the man of La Mancha...." But the bigger question will be whether the Pickins Geldings attend the game and one of them tries to mount the Tech horse. Wait, that ain't gonna happen. No lead in their pencils.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

No reason for him to do that again. He will probably come up with something new.

I just wrote an article about this, its on my examiner page.
Tech fans are overlooking this game which is really stupid. SMU not only can compete with them but I think they can win. The pressure is really all on Tech.

Tell the Tech fans that they have nothing to fear, and that their players should be encouraged to drink large quantities of alcohol in their preparation for the contest.

We'll score in Lubbock and have the normal shot if turnovers go our way.
I think McKnight will have the special teams ready. Tuberville always has a few special team surprises and I am sure we will be prepared.
I agree with previous posters/threads that players will step up big that have not been in the limelight. And as others have stated, the first game could benefit SMU.
When Tuberville was at Auburn, they rarely had stellar performances against spread offenses.
A quick 7 - 10 point lead might have them yamming in Lubbock. THAT would be fun to see.

Their players need no encouragement for that. It's a given. Student body either for that matter...

If we beat Tech and TCU, I'll finally get the pony tattoo I've often thought of getting.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

I think a loss to tech would remind us that there is still work to do. I would much rather beat tcu and houston and go from there.

I wouldn't. Beating TCU will discredit TCU's entire season and ultimately will get written off as not much of a victory. Beating Tech on national TV will not ruin Tech's entire season by virtue of conference. It'll mean much more at the end of the season. Plus, EVERYONE who wants to be recruited to a pass-happy offense will be watching that game to see what Tech's offense looks like. Winning there would be great advertisement.
