I have to display my ignorance, but it appears the men's swim team has not been in the WAC since 2000-2001 season, but are now in NIC. What is the NIC? For reference, see link:

NIC stands for something like National Independant Conference. Something like that. Its a loose aggregation of schools that have mens swim teams, but no conference to compete in. So, they hold a meet together that gives their swimmers a chance to make NCAA qualifying times.
The WAC has not sponsored mens swimming as a conference sport since the departure of the Mountain Goats. Not enough schools left with teams to make a legitimate conference. The WAC still sponsors Womens Swimming, where the Lady Mustangs should win their 8th or 9th consecutive title this week. You are all sheep.

Prof X has it right. We joined the NIC, which helps various orphans, since the WAC doesn't sponsor Men's Swimming. It also looks like we may stay with the NIC, since CUSA doesn't sponsor men's teams either; just for women. Of note, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa State and Oklahoma have cancelled their Men's programs. Nebraska had a top 25 Team as well. Pony Up
