Darryl Jackson interviewhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y39Ih3MVlb4
This is an interview with Jackson, Josh put this on his Scout site last week.
Re: Darryl Jackson interviewVery well spoken young man. Look at interviews of other kids that age or read the interviews the services put together and sometimes you scratch your head wondering how they graduated high school.
I can't infer his intelligence from one little interview, but that would tend to be an indicator and makes me question the decision on Jackson even more. #NewLobCity

Re: Darryl Jackson interviewI like him, let's get him back. With help he could make SMU proud:
Re: Darryl Jackson interview
Would he want to come back at this point? I wouldn't if this happened to me.
Re: Darryl Jackson interview
Iowa State recruited my son heavy out of JC they promised him. On our official visit after I had paid my flight and went up they still thought they could get some one better so they told him they did not have a spot at this time. We went home, and two weeks later when Dan McCartney called me and wanted to know if we were Cyclones we told him just what he wanted to hear. At the last minute we signed with UCF. So no, I would not. Recruiting is a game; you have to play it to your advantage. The problem here is that the clock ran out for these kids with no other or little options. Let me propose this question. If we denied 10 recruits their scholarships and signed 10- 5 stars would anyone give a [deleted]? Re: Darryl Jackson interview
I would care. We haven't had much to be proud of over the last 20 years, but one thing I can state unequivocally is that we competed with class. Bennett honored the scholarships offered by Cavan and Jones honored the scholarships offered by Bennett. In both cases, I think that may have hurt the program initially, but was important for our reputation. The Mustangs are not everyone's favorite team, but I do get a sense that just about everyone I talk to around here pulls for the Stangs. If we start winning, those people are going to jump on the bandwagon. If we start being arrogant or breaking promises -- this gives people reasons not to like SMU. I want to take the high road. I want to win, but I want to win with class. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: Darryl Jackson interviewUm, there are some people in Tyler who would argue that Jones did not honor the commitments of Bennett:
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... fef03.html Jones has also been able to yank scholarships/run off players/however you want to couch it. That's something that previous SMU coaches have not been able to do, but happens all the time at other places - especially in basketball.
Re: Darryl Jackson interviewAs I said play or get played.
Re: Darryl Jackson interview
Playa - you must be shown respect.... A person who is competitive and gregarious by nature. The skill of a playa is measured by the extent of his or her "game." The more "game" a playa has, the more respect they command in their community. A person who has enough game (and hence, enough respect) can do whatever they want, dress however awful (or tacky) they want, say whatever crazy things they want to say, and still win the adoration of others. Game recognizes game, and a true playa will always give respect to a fellow playa when it is due. People who ignore (read: fail to notice), criticize, or alienate themselves from a playa without just cause is referred to as a "playa hater."
Re: Darryl Jackson interviewAnd for you prospective player parents: I've been down your road. I can tell you every story from high school to the NFL with a kid.
You don't know things about the NCAA you trust that the people in your high school system do. Wrong! http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/037 ... 1ad6fc8b25 Keller high school told my son that after he had taken his ACT for the third time his score and GPA were good enough. like an idiot I did not research the facts close enough . They forgot to tell us that there is such a thing as CORE GPA you missed it by two hundreds of a point. and it was to late to retake it. Gee that 'is why all of the letters stopped coming in from all over the country. Let's go to Junior College. If you graduate from JC with an associates you are a BCS qualifier. Now it was fun because offers were coming in like the wind lower big twelve schools allot of mid majors. TJC played in two back to back bowl games. The future was finally bright and sure. Then the debacle with Iowa State promising and then saying no only to offer again when they did not get their four star tackle . At that point is when I realized three things. Number one talent supersedes everything. Number two it's all on you or the student to research everything. And third play or be played. The final FU was when the Mob Boss fired the head coach with three game left at UCF my sons senior year all of the assistant coaches were scrambling for new jobs trying to steal away commitments to the new schools they would be working at. No help from the coaching staff there was not one for the 20th best ranked tackle for the 2004 NFL draft. I wrote Steve O a letter an I am still waiting for his reply. Thanks again Steve. It's 2010. Play or be Played! Last edited by Mestengo on Tue Jul 06, 2010 10:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.
