for those of you loyal supporters that are being ignored - do you feel used? you give money, you buy tickets, you show up to the games, yet you are not important enough to get a response. Are Turner, Orsini, and Jones better than you? Will they only talk to you at official events and when they want you to buy tickets and give money? Did any of them attend and graduate from SMU? Yet they ignore those that did?

I know of one reply, but the person feels he was one of the first to have sent an e-mail. I doubt anyone will get an answer if your no. 5 or higher.

What I do feel, is that a number of people are suddenly waking up to the fact, because of his lengthy tenure at a private university, a non-profit organization, he holds absolute power. Whether we agree with him or not, anyone at his level should have been replaced five years ago, just good business.

The Texas A&M AD will respond if you offend him....he will call you back and challenge you to a fight. Maybe that is the way to go

Bill Byrne is definitely not the answer to our situation.

If our admissions committee were willing to fight to the death, the situation would be very different indeed.

The man has had more national championships in football won under his tenure than any other current athletic director that I am aware of. Granted, he probably didn't make much of a substantial contribution toward winning them, but still....let's not pretend that he is even an AD we could actually hope to hire.

huskerpony/Samurai Stang,

a&m is not SMU by a long shot, and Byrne was happily at a family reunion for a good portion of the Mack 10 (Big 12) near implosion...he works the aggie circuit well, but has the local reputation as someone that will cut any negative folks (alumni/media/hs coaches) out in a split minute that dare to buck. The threat to fight was one in a long line of interesting leadership choices. It plays well with some, but a number of ags were left shaking their collective heads at the stereotype that it suggested and perpetuated.

The ags are operating under a 16 million dollar deficit, with way more assets and alums than SMU...and no more National Championships in football than we have.

My point is that he would be a poor fit for our school.

Turner/Orsini/Admissions do not have to run around and put out every fire that flares among fans...not their primary job(s), but in this case, the silence is deafening.

Byrne has a myriad of other issues that take priority...the loss or offense of a few hundred folks is not as easily felt or missed...not so, in our case.

I was not supporting the notion that he be hired, merely that admissions follow his willingness to fight for his beliefs. If so, we would soon have a new admissions board.

Samurai Stang,

principle is worth fighting for, every time.

SMU Admissions should not wait until July to give a prospective student (athletes included) the final word on entry for the Fall term. Our coaches should CLEARLY know from Admissions/AD/et al what that criteria is, and be able to operate under those conditions with confidence.

As per Stallion in another thread, this is not the end of the world, but it is a clear representation of a poorly handled public case. My hope is that our leader(s) will lead...and not remain conveniently quiet.

What do you mean? It seems to me that the admissions board has fought for their beliefs in this situation. If they wanted to take the easy way out they would have let the two men into the school, and if they had then I am sure they would not be under fire. Just because you do not agree with their beliefs does not mean they are not sincere in their actions. Or did I miss your point.

This could make it much more difficult for our coaches to recruit, what do you think our rivals will tell the kids that are being recruited in the future?
