SMU can't handle successThis is just another example of how the administration loves to throw away success on the field to make the school look better. I'm sick of this crap. I hate the "we have to be a great private school" take on things. We are in Texas for crying out loud and winning is the cure for everything. Instead, we have an administration that only cares about $$$$ instead of raising young adults to be successful in life. Just my 2 cents
Re: SMU can't handle successThread title reminded of a conversation I had with an SMU assistant coach last summer.
He wondered how the school would handle the success that was sure to come. Would it fall back into old ways, old fears?, etc.
Re: SMU can't handle successYes we can
Re: SMU can't handle success
Actually, if they cared about $$$$ they would realize how a successful football team impacts enrollment and overall contributions. Extremely short-sided on Turner's part, but not surprising.
Re: SMU can't handle successWhile I still maintain hope that this will be resolved in a satisfactory manner, it seems like SMU finds every way possible to ruin athletics.
Peruna's Law is alive and strong. If this is as bad as it seems, I just don't know how many more times I can invest emotionally in SMU, only to be stabbed through the heart. This isn't like your wife/girlfriend saying hurtful things to you, it's like repeatedly coming home to find your wife/girlfriend in a vile fetishistic orgy with 3 morbidly obese men while someone films it to give away online for free. Not even subscription. If SMU continues to try to be a liberal arts college instead of a University (including FOOTBALL) then I don't think I can justify any financial contributions. "I think Couchem is right."
