Now nearing the final training camp of his last football season at SMU, Dollens appreciates his chance to play college football and is pumped up about the Mustangs’ potential for a blockbuster 2010 season.
“We’ve had such a great off-season,†said Dollens, a reserve defensive end and special teams athlete. “We’re very excited to play our first game (Sept. 5) against Texas Tech on ESPN. It will actually be on a Sunday on the first weekend of college football. A lot of people will be able to see it.â€
Dollens has packed on 15 pounds of muscle to beef up to 270 pounâ€ds — about 30 pounds heavier than his high school days — on his 6-foot-2 frame.
Dollens credits the coaching staff, spearheaded by head coach June Jones, for the program’s turnaround.
“I have so much respect for our coaches,†he added.
