Problems Caused AlreadyI do not post just to post but only to pass on information I think the majority of you will find interesting. As many of you know, I have been a loyal supporter with multiple season tickets since 1990, attending football and basketball games, many mustang club donations, money when asked for Crum Center, etc. More important, I have family members and relatives working at Madison, Converse Judson and Smithson Valley high school -- some as coaches.
I have already received calls from those who are the coaches that this is making the rounds down here as far as recruiting and believe me this is not positive at all for us. I am just passing along that what we have done is not going unnoticed down here. There is no way to spin this to be good for us. For those that think this will blow over, I don't think so -- at least not for a while. I am most disappointed at how this has apparently been handled and the athletes notified last minute. If that is really the case, it does make you have second thoughts on continuing to contribute money and time to this program. I'd rather devote resources to Larry Coker at UTSA who from what I have seen and at the luncheons I have been to are trying to do everything professionally.
Re: Problems Caused Already
June Jones at SMU is trying to as well.
Re: Problems Caused Already<edit> larry coker and utsa....
Go to turner and stand up for june...did you write to tell them you are canceling all tickets
Re: Problems Caused Already
You need to write your dis-satisfaction to Turner as soon as you can Pony in SA
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyI can readily agree that this situation has been poorly handled, but how would you feel as a parent when your son's high school coach says that little Johnny should not consider SMU, a high caliber institution of learning, being coached by a near if not already legend because little Johnny just might not be smart enough to get in?
The issue as I see it is the statement made that we were basically on a level playing field and then the fact not being the case. I do not think we have any major recruiting woes. The other Brenham kid may become a loss but other than that, I think this will have the same impact in recruiting as did the committment we dropped in east Texas. Now the relationship of our coach with the school and more importantly my concern is with Klemm, that is another story. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

Start devoting. ![]()
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyI have no issues with Coach Jones, fortunate to speak to him a couple of times last year, and support him. I have written school as suggested but received no response.
My bigger issue is how it appears we handled this and late notice to kids, and the effect that has including with our coaches. Good point made about Coach Klemm, would hate to lose him. The coaches who called me said that was really their focus as well, how we apparently gave these athletes such late notice. A few said they understood if a kid did not qualify we could not take him, but they all did not understand why we couldn't have let the kids no sooner. They said the other schools let them know right away if their athletes have potential problems with getting in, etc. I assume there is some explanation for the late notice, but if not and we just dropped this one it really looks bad to high school coaches down here.
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyYou nailed it SA!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyI agree with 98% of this statement-but Hall did take the ACT after the SAT so there must have been some concern. I wonder when he took the ACT-hmm that could possibly explain SOME of the delay.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyThat was one of my questions. When did he take the ACT and how long was it before that score got processed? Even then, was that score enough (even if a clearinghouse qualifying score) to overcome the bad SAT score with the Admissions Committee? These are the issues that we don't know on this whole incident. And then how long was the "appeal" process from that determination. What was entailed in that process? Who was on that appeal committee or was it just Turner? Were they waiting for his final senior year grades (which only would have been available late last month when school ended)? I could see them waiting on those as that would likely impact core course GPA.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyI still think when the player took the SAT, whether he took the ACT, etc is immaterial if JJ was under the impression that admission changes had been made at SMU and NCAA qualified=okay for SMU.
like most folks where money isnt an issue, JJ left Hawaii because it had become a pain in the [deleted]. He was sold on the people at SMU being committed to football, changes having been made, etc etc. If that wasnt the case, there's a problem. Klemm works his [deleted] off. For a guy who made millions in the NFL, it's not about the money for him either. It's about having fun. And not having to deal with daily pains in the [deleted].
Re: Problems Caused Already
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyRGV I assumed he HAD to take the ACT to qualify based on his statement that he scored "low on the SAT". Nobody has ever claimed that I have read that Hall could have been a full qualifier on the sliding scale with his GPA and "low SAT" score.

Re: Problems Caused Already
I'm pretty comfortable asserting I agree with you. I'm still wondering how much concern you have, because unless I"m mistaken we could be looking at a situation where SMU's changes to their model to something more Stallionphilic could be less than we'd hoped for, or assumed.
Re: Problems Caused AlreadyI don't know anything about the appeals process, but if Hall and Jackson went through the appeals process that may be on reason they were notified so late that they were not admissable into SMU. Just a thought.
