I have always wondered why so many SMU fans get caught-up in the wrong comparisons when trying to sell your university and athletic teams to recruits. You don't compare attendance at football games and how many times you appear on national tv. You sell SMU and a $250,000 scholarship at one of the great universities in one of the great areas to reside and work in the world. That compared to a public education valued at $25,000 a year where you will be among the masses in Austin, Lubbock, College Station, Ames, Norman, Stillwater, Waco......Who wants to live in those places after graduation? Sure, it is great to have so many sports teams to watch but is that really why you are going to college? Yes, I know the answer for many of you. TCU is paving the way. No reason to not copy a successful plan and add your own ingredients.

Try selling that to a 18 year old wide eyed football player that has other options.

Do we need to plant some ivy on campus and get it growing up on the walls of the buildings?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
