That used to be the major of choice for the academically challenged. But there are dangers. A world ranked swimmer was guided in that direction, and decided he liked dance (and boys) and he dropped out of swimming.

Then we can claim that our team is a member of a top 25 program. The dance school is ranked #2 in the nation behind Julliard. It is pretty demanding.

And if anyone thinks it is easy, ponyte noticed that there were only well sculpted girls in tight outfits in dance classes and tried to enroll in a class. Ponyte saw this as a target rich environment for potential extracurricular companionship. Unfortunately, one has to have an audition and be accepted with some skill level already achieved and with talent. And this was many years ago when the dance school was ranking behind TCU!

Dance also is a very physically demanding activity at this level. Are we sure we want to place our already tired and beat up players in a major that demands more of them physically?

A dance major may be the answer to academic issues at some schools but probably not at SMU.

Just as a follow-up, HB Pony Daughter, who is an accomplished dancer, acknowledged that SMU's dance school was beyond her skill level!

So I assume that enrolling our FB players there is not the easy course answer!

Where can you get off saying there is no book learning? Looks like there is 35 hrs of GEC (General ed), plus 22 hours of applied theory (ie dance/music history, theory, etc.) required.

Big difference between the GEC dancing and the actual Dance major.

In fact, all of the Meadows majors are a lot harder than their GEC counter parts, just like any other major.

I've often said that if we have a dance major we could have a football major. Both are purely physical pursuits and both have slim odds of employment outside of teaching for all but the best.

Great point. There should absolutely be a football major. It's a huge industry, with a broader reach than classical dance, classical music, fine art, etc.
