That included making Marshall's football coaching salaries more in line with other Conference USA programs. The average salary for C-USA head coaches in 2010 will fall just shy of $900,000, a figure skewed somewhat by Southern Methodist Coach June Jones and his $2 million salary.

I don't think even now the other C-USA schools have any idea what's about to hit them. When SMU fully marshals (no pun intended) its resources and decides to do something big, it is a formidable thing to see. If you would have told any UT grad in 1978 that SMU would beat them in football as soon as 1980, they would have laughed you out of the room. We've been asleep for a long, long time. . .people have forgotten what SMU is capable of accomplishing.
