Too bad the article failed to answer the question we wanted to know. What is the profile of those few being denied admission. If Jones wants support he should make his position more transparent concerning the type of player denied admission.

Article failed to point out the 6 non-qualifiers last year and the apparent soon to be-and I'm speculating 5-6 non-qualifiers this year

This article was far less damaging than it could have been. The author could have easily slanted his position against both Jones and admissions, but instead chose only admissions. Additionally, the article brings about very little knew information. The story remains basically the same, and for that I am preased.

Turner will never be reformed, and it is unlikely that he will be removed.

I do not believe that SMU will every support Jones in the manner which was stated. If the admissions committee is SMU's idea of support (and it is) then our situation is dire indeed.

Why attack the symptoms when the cause is known? Because that cause is Turner, and his position as president is secure. In not being able to attack the cause, SMU will always retain Turner and his harmful policies directed at the athletic department.

I agree that the article was not as bad as it could have been. There really is still quite a few questions that remain to be answered. It really is a shame that Turner continues to avoid fully addressing the situation. It as all quite sad that this occurred immediately after our program enjoys its first real success since the DP. If this situation causes us to go back to the days of one win a year it will be more of an embarrassment than the DP. At least the DP resulting from trying to win. That is much less shameful than refusing to support the pursuit of a successful program that SMU can be proud of.

If "this situation" causes anything, it will be much much worse than one-win seasons. Read the possibility Whitt writes about in his last paragraph.

JJ is our last chance.

Google Swarthmore football or University of Chicago football if you want to know what "this situation" can cause.

Crazy thing is if I really thought we had a shot of being anything like U of Chicago, I would consider it, but we will never be that good in anything...

Turner would only fail to address this situation for as long as he has if he was foolish enough to believe that the scandal would disappear over the weekend. He underestimated the story when it came out, and he underestimates the story now as it continues.

Turner may have once been able to calmly address the situation, but he has waited too long. The story has grown out of his control. In his silence, Turner now appears guilty.

A simple statement will no longer suffice as it might have before.

This is such an embarassment.

Not accepting NCAA qualifiers is not even the worst part. As Stallion points out, these guys could be very marginal cases. The problem is that the rules Jones must play by are obviously not clearly defined. There should not be any "battle", everything should have already been clarified on day 1.

I hope this gets ugly. It is the only way we can get a resolution.

Either play to win, or drop football. Stop toying with us, wasting our time, money, and emotions.

While I agree that the situation seems bleak, I can't see how this goes the route of U of C or Swarthmore football. With the donations recently made by Ford and the Circle of Champions there is no way football gets shut down. If there is one thing that Turner cares about it is his legacy. For this to cause the football program to shut down would destroy his legacy. In this respect, trust in Turner's ego.

SMU admissions is harsher than the Ivy League. Not exactly the definition of competitive recruiting.

If I had donated a large sum of money based, I'd be suing SMU for fraud in using lies to obtain my donation.

I'm still confused why the DMN hasn't tried to quote any of them in their stories.

he was told by SMU's admissions committee that he wasn't smart enough—not good enough.

This is also the admissions committee saying that the school isn't capable enough to offer sufficient aid to student athletes to thrive at SMU, where players like Jackson and Hall are receiving the support they need to graduate from very good schools as student athletes all over the country.
