Lunatics Running the AsylumModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Lunatics Running the AsylumToo much crazy on this board today to respond to all. One question -where were all these St. Jones Cheerleaders for the last 20 years when things were without question 10 times worse than this year when we have admitted 15 Category C student athletes. 32-36 Category C student athletes in 2 years-probably about 10-12 non-qualifiers. June Jones is bombarding Admissions with unprecedented academically marginal students and Admissions has probably pushed back against 2 of the most marginally deficient. Look at these guys leading the Parade-these are same guys that have been blowing wind up your skirts for the last 20 years touting a ridiculous Model and asking for Mustang Club donations for each successive losing coach. Until one of you indicates that you know the first thing about the actual reasons they were denied admission-I'll think I'll stand on the sidelines while you try to overthrow the university government over 2 recruits whose profile you can't even articulate. This time just try not flying the whole thing into the ground like you did before. I wish you would all just stay away from the Athletic Department. Its one of the stupidest ideas ever perpetuated on this Board.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumYou never received enough attention when you were a baby did you?
Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumAbsolutely agree with this one. If we started a list of the top recruits that we denied over the last 20 years who ended up in the NFL, you would all be amazed.
These two cases are not all that different than the many before them - with the only exception being that they occured after the announcement that "things have changed" in the athletic admissions process. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumI don't think anyone is indicating that they know the actual reasons Hall and Jackson were denied admission, but the rumors that Jackson can go to TTU or UCLA are very troubling. Couple that with the Gottschalk appeals process (when he had already been accepted to Penn) and it looks like a systemic problem.
The real reaon for outrage, IMHO, is the perception that SMU may be running Jones off. And that is a scary proposition.
Re: Lunatics Running the Asylum- Sunshiners had to taste the goods of success first.
- They needed someone to get behind, believe in, i.e. June. - If ben really got into Penn but had to be appealed twice to SMU and IF the other is truly going to play for UCLA or even Tech, then that has to say something about our standards. - If the Circle of Champs and June are upset that the admin isn't following up with what they promised, that needs to be addressed.
Re: Lunatics Running the Asylum
You got THAT right.

Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumStallion,
you are missing the point...JJ came here under the assumption any player that gets through NCAA clearinghouse can play here...now we have either changed those rules or they weren't articulated properly... It has nothing to do with the 2 recruits, and everything to do with getting the admin to let JJ play under the same rules most other school play with...I say we should give it a 5 year run and seeing how it goes...if the athletes become cancers to the U., then we can go back once JJs unsigned contract ends... As usual, I think you understand this and are starting this to get a rise out of people...mainly because you are a loser...
Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumStallion, I'm afraid everyone started drinking your kool-aid and now believes that "it's the model, stupid."
That, and as an attorney I'm sure you can appreciate that somewhere there is a wrong which needs righted. Representation that is false + reliance resulting in damages = fraud. "If you are an NCAA qualifier, and we want you, you can go to school here." If somewhere the rules were changed, that should have been pointed out. Otherwise the coaches and players continued to rely on the previous representation. The 2.5/820 thing almost got me swayed...until Gottschalk and other things came down the pike. Kid went to a Jesuit high school and was admitted to f ing Penn. C'mon.
Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumThe worst part of this is the PR--bad timing to tell a kid he's out as he's packing to come to Dallas...or worse, has been here for two months.
But still, I am of the opinion that if a guy meets NCAA qualifications, he should be admitted, period. That's what we were led to believe when Jones came here, and apparently 'taint true. Now admittedly, we were led to believe this by the same bunch that told us Tubbs was fired for violating NCAA rules, so maybe all this outrage is our own fault for buying into the SMU company line once again.... I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumIf you're interested, Stallion, I know exactly what Jeremy Hall was told by the committee.
Re: Lunatics Running the AsylumRight here, interested!
