RecoverySMU has embarrassed itself tremendously in its treatment of NCAA qualifiers. This has angered fans, and caused SMU's image to be damaged among high school recruits.
There is, however, a method by which SMU can recover. In committing to a practice facility, Turner can again present himself as a heroic athletic supporter among alumni and boosters. Having thus far remained silent, Turner has allowed the story to take on a life of its own. Turner clearly believed the story would not be so significant, hoping that it would die after several days. Instead, he is now faced with a monster that he allowed to grow by his silence. By supporting a practice facility, Turner can distance himself from the scandal and demonstrate his commitment to athletics. SMU will now have to prove that it can be trusted to recruits. Unfortunately, this could take several years unless significant action is taken. A practice facility will be a new testament to SMU's commitment, a visible structure demonstrating that the university is behind athletics more than before. Far East Conference
Re: RecoverySimply, he won't...
Re: RecoveryI thought for sure a Samurai Stang thread called "Recovery" was going to be about seppuku and honor.

Re: Recovery
I am beginning to doubt that Turner has any honor left to save. Far East Conference
Re: Recovery
Are you saying Turner's not a problem here?
Re: Recovery
Building a practice facility is an excellent means to go about silencing the Hall/Jackson debate. Given the length of his silence, mere reassurances from Turner that this will not happen again are too little. Additionally, such reassurances could never be trusted, given his established lies on the subject of admissions. Something more substantial is now necessary. Far East Conference
Re: RecoveryTurner needs another round of Conference re-alignment so that people will stop talking about this.
He should pull an Obama and have a press conference with no Q&A focused on the great the relationship between Athletics and the Admin. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Recovery
Conference realignment is at least another year away. Meanwhile, Turner has damaged SMU's athletic reputation with this scandal. If changes are not made, tt could very well be that conference realignment would only provide SMU supporters with another reason to dislike Turner. Far East Conference
Re: Recovery
No, I'm not saying that at all, although I don't see him as nearly the problem many here do. He's a little, but only part of the larger-scale problem that is the entire admissions process. I was merely saying that the idea that doubting "that Turner has any honor left to save" is ludicrous. He is far from perfect, but he has done some good things, too, and while many of us are upset about the recent admissions fiasco, to suggest Turner has no honor left to save is, at best, a knee-jerk reaction. Re: Recovery
Perhaps we should wait until after Turner commits seppuku to debate his honor. Your desire to maintain suicide as an option for Turner is admirable. Are you willing to serve as his kaishakunin? Far East Conference
Re: RecoveryGlad Samurai Stang doesn't run one of my divisions...nice problem solving skills...HA! "killing flies with nukes"
Re: Recovery
Note that seppuku was not my suggestion. My suggestion for a recovery plan was noted in the first post of this thread. Building a practice facility would be tangible evidence of the university's commitment. Would you be satisfied to have the word of Turner alone? I would not, particularly given the worth his word has been shown to carry. Please, tell me the glory of your problem solving skills, because thus far you have not suggested a solution. In fact, you have not even countered my suggestion with a real argument, but instead have only offered mocking words. What is the great answer that you are hiding? Far East Conference
Re: RecoveryYour solution is comical....
Re: Recovery
Not when compared to your vaunted "problem-solving skills." For all of your boasting, you have contributed nothing. Your ability to avoid a direct question is second only to Turner. But you will continue to mock me, as though that is proof that you are intelligent. Your tactics are what I would expect from a child, and I must assume that you have the mind to match. Unless, that is, you would like to actually respond as an adult. Far East Conference
