No telling what UTSA's entrance standards are but that did not take long. And on Wednesday, less than two weeks after learning that he had been denied admission to Southern Methodist University despite being NCAA eligible, Hall signed a full scholarship with the University of Texas-San Antonio, where he will play both football and baseball.
Brenham football coach and athletic director Glen West, who was in Washington D.C. when he received the news that Hall had been denied admission to SMU, said Hall bounced back from the news quicker than he did. “When I got off the plane in Houston I had a voice message from Jeremy saying, ‘Check into UTSA for me. I think that’s the thing I’d like to do,’†West recalled. “Within about four hours, he had it set in his mind. Other offers came his way and he had to think them through, but I think for him it was a slam dunk as long as they wanted him and it was a good fit.â€
Every school that offered Hall during his initial recruitment returned to the table to try to draw the free safety who was regarded a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, but UTSA’s Larry Coker had a leg up after offering Hall early in the spring of 2009.
West said it’s a happy ending to what could have been a tragic story.
“He’s still going to compete at a Division I school,†West said. “He was a first-team all-state safety, so it would have been a tragedy for him not to get that opportunity. Secondly, the most important thing about college is getting an education, and the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard about SMU was that he would be robbed of a chance to get his education taken care of. And the third thing is that he doesn’t have to give up a sport he loves.â€
Every other school had no trouble with him!!!!! http://www.brenhambanner.com/articles/2010/07/15/sports/sports01.txt

This was at the end of an article about Jeremy in yesterday's Brenham paper...
"Another Brenham defensive back, Rodney Hubert, who will play his senior season for the Cubs this fall, has verbally committed to SMU. West said Hubert has not changed his commitment status.
“He’s watching this real closely,†West said. “That’s all I would say at this point. He saw what happened.†"

The last part of the article about Jeremy Hall from the Brenham paper. It's just one coach's opinion.
This also should address questions about specific benchmarks....there weren't any. Just subjectivity. West said that in the future, Brenham’s coaches will ask more questions of colleges to try to prevent similar situations.
“There are still three things I’m still bothered by,†West said. “No. 1 is how late this decision came down. It really put a strain on Jeremy and his family because it had to happen fast and I wonder what other opportunities there would have been had it happened in April instead of July.
“The second thing is to this day we were never told what the benchmark was that he fell under. I don’t think there was one.
“And the third thing I would say is that usually when a kid signs a scholarship we turn them over to the college coaches to deal with admissions and that sort of thing, but we may need to be more hands on or micromanage that. We’ll be more involved in some way to help represent our athlete.â€
