CUSA QB Rankings

Postby ponydawg » Fri Jul 16, 2010 1:06 pm

This is just a blogger, but he does bring up a good point about how bad the Defenses were that Kyle faced. I think Kyle will be great, but I am glad he got to warm up last year against the Defenses he did so his confidence was boosted.

http://wherepurplereigns.blogspot.com/

6. SMU Mustangs
Projected Starer: Kyle Padron, So.
Newcomers: J.J. McDermott, Jr. (New Mexico St. Transfer)
Departed: B.L. Mitchell (1,725 yds, 12 TDs, 10 INTs, 56%)

Positives: Padron looked very impressive in his 7 games last season after taking over for Mitchell. He passed for 1,922 yds, 10 TDs and only 4 INTs while completing 67.2% of his passes. Keep in mind he did that as a true Freshman. He averaged over 276 yds/gm through the air which would have been second in conference if he had played enough games to qualify. Amazingly he would have been 5th in the nation in passer rating had he met the minimum number of games to qualify for that too. Kyle also has enough speed to take off and run when he needs to.

Negatives: At this point you may be wondering how I have this guy ranked 6th. I mean look at the stats he put up AS A FRESHMAN! Here's why: he is unproven. He has barely tasted FBS football so far. I'm not talking about the number of snaps he has taken. I'm talking about the fact that he might as well have been playing pop warner defenses last year. Of the 7 opponents he faced on '09, only one was ranked in the top half of the FBS in passing defense and they were 57th (Marshall). He faced 3 of the 4 worst pass defenses in Tulane (117th), Nevada (118th), and Rice (119th). He also faced UTEP (96th), Tulsa (89th), and Houston (67th). Color me unimpressed. He may have the best chance to move up these rankings during the season but as of now I'm not buying in to all the hype.

that guy's a moron. KP beat the best defense in the conf. all the other qb's in CUSA play the same crappy defenses, except they all have to play ours, and Kyle doesn't

Padron's poise and execution in the Holiday Bowl was very impressive. Seems the blogger overlooked that. Also, Kyle's command of the offense improved with every game. I totally agree, Dutch, that guy's a moron.

How's this guy a moron? He points out some stats. Padron's awesome and the blogger pretty much said so, but he pointed out reasons to wonder if his performance would be as spectacular agains better D's.

Big tough guys calling a guy a moron through the safety of the internet?

Hmmm. You raise a good point, the value of the blog should be critiqued not based on the content therein, but on the potential physical prowess of the posters involved. You should run for office SC Pony. You're [deleted] brilliant lol.

Ugh, gimme a GD break. 1st of all, the blogger who wrote the "article" hides behind the anonymity of the internet and doesn't even put his name on his post. I looked, tried to post a comment to him asking where he got the stats from (because they're wrong), and couldn't unless i set up a blogger acct, or AIM or some other nonsense. He used those incorrect stats to state that our QB shouldn't be ranked higher than 6th in the conference b/c he only played teams w/ bad defense. the point i was making is that ALL THE QB'S in CUSA play the same teams (at one time or another) so to say one qb hasn't proven himself (versus other CUSA QBs) b/c he plays CUSA defenses is dumb.
