Re: What about the indoor practice facility?I'm not trying to be a jerk, but this is serious...this is a last chance for us...if JJ leaves it is going to be tough to get a quality coach in here...
So if you had fun last year like most did, we need to do our part and write turner that we like winning withing all limits of the NCAA....Once we continue to improve this won't be as big a concern as we will be able to grab more recruits that fit the school, but at this point we aren't there yet... Plus, these asst. and JJ are out there selling kids on the school under a set of assumptions that weren't true...they go in, tell the family your kid will be ok, I will take care of them, and then we tell them to take a hike...might not be a big deal to us or the recruit, but how do you think those asst coaches take it...You think they want to work like that.... You are kidding yourself if you dont think there are un-resolved issues out there...Get more involved or don't make blind comments...there are plenty of things out there if you want to get on the ship...
Re: What about the indoor practice facility?
The importance of a quality coach cannot be casually dismissed. Recruiting is important, but having a coach that inspires players and effectively runs his team is essential, as well. Bennett was not only handicapped by SMU's recruiting policies, he was also handicapped by his own mental abilities. He did not believe in in-game adjustments, and made numerous blunders throughout his career. Bennett would have never taken SMU to a bowl game last year, even with the same players. Simply recruiting athletes does not equal utilizing their talent on the field. Far East Conference
Re: What about the indoor practice facility? What are the height requirements for a facility like this? How does that work with the HP height restrictions that we worked under building Ford Stadium??????
Re: What about the indoor practice facility?Fiarwolf, I don't know the answer to your question. But I was in Waco last week and happened to drive past the Baylor indoor practice facility. It was not a particularly tall building and had a flat roof. It didn't appear to be any taller than say the Meadows museum. So it is certainly possible to build a structure that does not have an extremely high profile if height restrictions are an issue.
Re: What about the indoor practice facility?
Are you suggesting we should shut down the SMU admissions office and just go by who others accept? The vast majority of cases that have gone before the committee have gotten in. Jackson couldn't get an earlier answer because he didn't graduate until the day before he headed to Dallas. Was it handled badly? Yeah, it was, but it's time to focus on the season. I get mad at my kids, too, but when they learn from their mistakes — and it sounds like SMU is learning from this one — I embrace them again and move forward. We should do the same.
Re: What about the indoor practice facility? And I have heard there is a plan being discussed in which half of the current Pettus practice field would be closed in for an indoor facility, to be side-by-side with an outdoor field. I hope it's not built by the same people who did the Cowboys' facility...
Re: What about the indoor practice facility?
Given that the same company was linked to several other incidents in which their facilities collapsed, I doubt SMU will look to them. Although the inability to properly construct a practice facility would fit with our inability to properly tear down a goalpost. Far East Conference

Company is bankrupt and no longer in business. #NewLobCity
Re: What about the indoor practice facility? Will somebody please explain to me why football teams need an indoor practice facility for a game that's played in virtually any weather. This is the wussification of football. How can guys who practice in an air conditioned facility survive in 110 degree heat at Kyle Field? How can guys who practice on a dry field, manage a monsoon at Navy? How can guys who practice in a nice warm facility then play in 20 degree weather at Marshall? I hope Pink Taco gets the naming rights. First, we get geldings, next we'll be wearing tu tus.

Re: What about the indoor practice facility?Because if everyone else has one, WE have to have one if we want to recruit top athletes.

Re: What about the indoor practice facility?Because everyone else has one, we install one. I'd rather focus on getting the Education Department up and running so that athletes can pursue a career in athletic education. I'd rather get the learning center working well, so that more academic risk players stay eligible. Those need to be the first priorities ahead of an indoor practice facility. Now if someone wants their name on a building, fine. Let them donate money for building that. Otherwise, let's fix the things that keep us from being truly competitive.
