Jody Dean has some interesting observations regarding the deterioration of the relationship between Jones and Orsini/Turner.........

from a comment thread over there...if this is true, we know now what happened to our bus brigade. Those of us that ponied up $ for that should be pi$$ed:

Last year they were working on a TV coach's show with an outside production company. The AD decided he wanted it produced in-house, even though the department had no experience in that area. The show died. That's one example of a hundred things that have galled Jones. Two of the biggest - a program Jones personally promoted for bringing inner city kids to games that the school shot down, and completely ignoring football alumni (not boosters, but ex-players). There are some serious hard feelings among them for Turner and Orsini.

They've also turned over the marketing department about six times now, and not used one of the ideas Jones proposed for bringing fans to the stadium - things like encouraging youth football teams to come, or neighbors in the Park Cities.

i don't know who jody dean or kevin mccarthy are...are they somehow connected to SMU or AD or should they have more insight than the casual fan?

with that said, it seems like the growing pains of a school that hasn't cared about football in 20+ years and doesn't know how to handle success. If JJ leaves b/c of this bs, I can honestly say that I will never care about SMU fb again.

I'm starting to think the administration doesn't want inner city kids running around campus...that might be a good way to blackmail the administration into playing ball

If any of this is true, doesn't it point to Orsini more than Turner? Orsini's job is to "handle" the president to get done what needs to get done.

I want to understand this situation better. Can someone PM me with details of June Jones' beef? Thanks in advance.

These blogs and comments are pouring more fuel on the fire, but really, any fool with a computer and Internet connection can say anything they want...that doesn't necessarily make it true. I'm not saying this stuff isn't true, but I really am leery of basing my opinions and decisions on things posted on the Internet by unknown sources. I get the impression from talking with people I trust that things are going on behind the scenes to get this crap straightened out. No, I do not have specifics, but just comments to the affect that things are happening. So...as my being one of those fools with an Internet connection...take my comment for what it is worth in your own opinion.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I believe Jody Dean and Kevin M are both long time Dallas broadcasters. I wonder if they were going to produce the coach jones show that got nixed by SO, if that allegation is true?

Jody Dean and Kevin McCarthy are longtime Dallas media personalities (like 30 years). They used to be more involved in sports than they are today. McKarthy was the PA voice of the Mavs for more than 20 years. Jody Dean worked for the Cowboys radio broadcast at some point. I think they are both still on the air, but I don't know where.

Could they know something? Yes. Do they? Dunno. But if they know it, Norm Hitzges knows it, too. If Jones felt this way and wanted people to know, it wouldn't be on this blog.

I never got the concept of a June Jones' coaches show. Of course I would watch it, but I didn't think it created exposure to new fans. Better off finagling a weekly segment on Norm Hitges' radio show.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

i doubt that either one of those guys could name one single player on the smu football team but suddenly they are experts. i think kevin has been fired from every job he ever had. he really shouldn't have pushed clarise into that pool. he was so boring that cuban fired him from his mavs gig.
