aTm buying SMU game out?

Postby gforce021 » Wed Jul 21, 2010 1:02 pm

I have heard through a source at A&M that they would most likely be buying us out in 2011, just wanted to see if anyone else has heard the rumor that A&M is most likely going to by us out due to their realization of what our team is becoming instead of a record booster. Responses?

My guess was always that they'd buy us out of the 2012 return game here in Dallas but that they'd play us in 2011 at Kyle Field, Jonestown, French Guyana.

I'd be surprised if they buy out of a home game but many of us have expected them to buy out of coming to SMU.

found the quote by jj

Jones doesn't foresee SMU being able to play UH soon, unless it's in the Hawaii Bowl. "There's a possible change involving a Texas A&M game. But our schedule's booked up for the next 10 or 15 years. It'd have to be one of those special things."

remember too they have an annual game in North Texas against Arkansas every year-isn't it a 10 year contract or so

why would a&m buy us out of game at ford? they'd have the majority of fans, it wouldn't cost much to come to Dallas, and in their eyes it looks like a W on paper. Unless they are trying to get game vs. ranked opponent or another home game, i don't see the logic.

somebody help me out.

well then you need to study basic athletic finance. 90,000 x whatever ridiculous amount they charge for seat licenses, tickets, parking, game day revenue, concessions, T-shirt. Most schools like A&M are trying to get 8 home games-7 at a minimum. Check out the prices for A&M v. Arkansas at Jerry's World.

I have heard the same thing about A&M. I don't know if this is the reason, but now that they have the annual game with Arky in DFW they may not feel the need to play SMU in Dallas anymore. They'll have pleanty of DFW exposure with the annual Arky game. Also, SMU under Jones is now on the rise. In another year or two, we won't be a sure thing for A&M. We may start having the same scheduling problems that TCU has experienced recently.

The acquisition of another home game is the only logical thing I could come up with other than them trying to sign on a team that seems like it is stagnant and at the caliber of a Rice or SFA

correct me if i'm wrong, but if we scheduled UH wouldn't be be eligible to add an extra game? believe that is only the case when/if we play at UH, but still....interesting possibility.

I could absolutely believe they would try to get out of coming to Ford, but would it be possible to move the game somewhere else, ala Arkansas to Shreveport back in '97? Could we move it, if not to Jerry Land, to the Cotton Bowl, or Houston, or somewhere else to that we still get a chance to beat them and get a paycheck?

I am sure that they would love to play us in the Alamo Dome. That worked out nicely in their undefeated 10-0-1 season of '94.

SMU-aTm at 2:11 on the video. I was at that game. Rodney Thomas was one fast dude.

Was it Crossland that went out for the FG?

you are correct. play at aloha stadium and you get another home game. A great opportunity to add a FBS opponent, early allowing for a little tune up.
