Ro BlackmanI’m not sure if there is any merit to the Blackman rumor but the more I read, the more he intrigues me. He is a very intelligent guy and he was a terrific player for the Mavs. Neither of those two things mean he would be a good HC but he has been an assistant for the Mavs since Cuban bought the team, and like Cuban or not, he doesn’t keep people around who aren’t earning their money……with the exception of Shawn Bradley. His connection to the Mavs and the NBA WOULD have an impact in recruiting. My biggest question would be, can he coach?
Not to single you out LA because everyone is doing it, but if we are going to push for him to be our next head coach we need to spell his name correctly. It is Blackmon not Blackman.
Re:
Not to single you out DickerJames, because I made the same mistake myself in the past, but if you are going to correct people, you yourself need to be able to spell Rolando BlackmAn's name correctly. ![]() http://www.nba.com/coachfile/rolando_blackman/ http://www.nba.com/mavericks/news/staff_directory_010216.html[/u] At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Obviously I should have checked the paper before making my correction post, but I would have bet good money on that argument. I must be thinking about the carpet cleaning company. Sorry for the foolish admonishment LA.
For those who are interested, Jan Hubbard of the Morning News raised some VERY interesting thoughts about Blackman in his Morning Line column.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... ac041.html Very much worth reading. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Two things jump out at me in that story.
1. The idea that Donnie Nelson might funnel an international big man to SMU through Blackman is VERY appealing. Going to SMU might actually benefit the Mavs, if they remain interested in such a player, in the fact that some scouts might discount a player's ability because he's not playing at a Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State, etc. So maybe he could slide to a lower pick, where the Mavs will presumably be choosing for a while. 2. Mark Cuban - I agree that Ro's presence at Moody Coliseum would not make it any more likely that Cuban would cut a fat check for SMU. But he might well help Ro get involved with some of his business contacts, making SMU hoops a much easier sell, and allowing us to raise badly-needed cash for the athletic program. Very interesting story, indeed. If you haven't read it yet, do so.
Another K-State connection. R.B. played basketball at K-State. I think he would have to show something in his interview. There is a nucleus on this team that could go places. Coaching and knowledge of the players that a potential coach would inherit is very important.
I agree, there are some real players in place, which is why we can't take a guy just because he's a recruiter. We need a COACH who also can recruit, and who surrounds himself with assistants who can recruit like crazy. From what's been posted here, I'm starting to wonder if that Paster guy at Arizona might be the answer.
Guys- alot to think about, but there is no guarantee that Don Nelson will be back with the Mavs next year, or Donnie Nelson, so that is nothing to pin your hopes on.
Are you suggesting that if Nellie leaves, Ro would be in line for the head coaching job with the Mavs? I think that's quite a leap. He might be a terrific coach, but I don't know if he's ready to take the top job with an NBA team yet.
Re:
There is zero chance that Blackman is the Mavs' next head coach. If it happens, I'll eat my hat. Guys, I am bald. I need my hat. It won't happen.
