The Southern Methodist Mustangs are next in today’s college football outlook. The Mustangs endured a brutal 20-year stretch, enjoying just one winning season since 1989, but June Jones turned it around last year and led Southern Methodist to eight wins and a bowl victory.
Jones, with two years under his belt at Southern Methodist now, is certainly among the country’s finest coaches. He coaxed a school record 380 points out of the Mustangs last year, and more should be on tap in 2010. Kyle Pardon started under center as a freshman last season because of injury, and it proved to be divine intervention. Pardon was fantastic and could challenge school passing records this year.
The defense wasn’t great, but it did surrender 99 fewer points compared to 2008, and it should be expected to further trim that number. They were young, so most of the key components return for another round
Defense might be better but several "key components" will need to be replaced. Good ink none the less.
