Northern Illinois graduate Sean Kowal finally got his release from the school late Tuesday night after the Huskies had originally denied his request to pursue a master's degree at another school. NIU said he initially didn't provide it with specific information on his intended academic choice.
Kowal, a center, gave Northern Illinois a list of five programs -- his hometown St. Louis Billikens, Xavier, Marquette, Creighton and SMU -- all of which are religious-based schools that he wanted to pursue to see if they had theology master's programs. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/katz_andy/id/5436789/niu-grants-sean-kowal-release

We are so low on big bodies, getting this guy should be priority number one. Especially if we want to have a season worth watching.
All we have in the front court is Dia, Luttman, and Kwiatkowski (who never plays). Otis is gone, Nyakundi can't play the 4 or 5 effectively and Smith is really a 3. So really we have Dia, Luttman's 5 fouls and........nothing else. Remember, Vilde can't play this year. We need this guy like there is no tomorrow (there may not be with this program). Hopefully he realizes this and will come play for us. Do we have any ships?
The article said he won't be playing starter minutes, but at SMU there is no doubt he would be the starter.

I'd love another big as well, but no ships exist. If he'd walk-on, great. As for Smith & Nuk, they are both face-up 4 types right now. As long as they figure out how to board out of the zone, that's about the best we can do. Neither can defend quick 3s in man either. Dia/Luttman/Nyakundi/Smith will eat most of the big minutes, Id imagine. They'll do anything to end the TK era w/o meaningful minutes.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

Listed at 6-11, 248
10.5 points per game 6.4 rebounds per game
As thin as we are up front, I'd take him in a heartbeat if there's a way to get him to the Hilltop.

I'm all for recruiting crackhouses, RGV, provided we get the next Lloyd Daniels.
