\"Junior Day\" is HUGE at SMU this weekend!!!!

Postby Stampede » Thu Feb 26, 2004 11:55 am

Fantastic response as SMU has over 125 juniors on campus this Saturday. Several of the most highly recruited players in the area, including 3 or 4 of our State Top 25 players, will be present. It will be huge and SMU is off to a fabulous start in football recruiting for next year.

Real advantage for SMU to have the players in early to see the greatness of SMU!! Should be a GREAT time for all.

Go Mustangs!!!

So...any early commitments from this event? Was Chris Hall there? Would be nice to get some early momentum in recruiting with the big fella re-confirming his plans to join Zach on the Hilltop.

I heard a little over a week ago that Chris Hall was planning to attend. I also heard that Marcus Shavers was going to be there. Not sure that either did, just that they were expected.

For those of us who aren't in town, is there anyone who can give us a report on Junior Day? How many were there? Who, other than these Hall and Shavers guys? Any significant feedback?

Yes ....SMU had over 125 players, including 7 out of the top 15 and 16 out of the top 50 players in the state including Hall, Shavers and Granger. Several from East Texas. Some from Oklahoma. The coaches were reportedly very pleased with the turnout and, more importantly, the reception the players had about SMU.

It was a first class event and several players did not want to leave. One coach said of a major recruits experience, "he would have stayed until midnight had we not had to shut it down."

Without a doubt, the best "Junior Day" in SMU history!

Granger? As in DeMarcus Granger, the DT from Dallas? I really hope you're not kidding about that. I've seen that kid play, and he is an absolute monster. He looked like he's well over 300 pounds (not sure what he's listed at) and he's quicker than the DEs on his team, and some of the LBs. The game I saw, he spent all day in the backfield, and that was after beating repeated double-teams from a big offensive line. I don't know a whole lot about the guy, but my impression has always been that he's a major national recruit. If he was here, and had a good visit .... OK, I'm going to dream about this, and hope that the SMU coaches can put together a sensational selling job to fight off the competition. (The clock is now officially ticking on the first guy to tell me it's early or that he's a longshot, etc.)

Stay home, Granger, so your friends, family and HS coaches/teammates can see you play. Be a star in your hometown!

Never too early. UT picked up its first commitment the other day from a top Texarkana LB. You'll see 10-20 more commitments by June.

Hey, we got Chris Hall. We havce just as many, if not more, commitments as Texas and any other school in Texas save A&M (2) and more than any school in C-USA!

But can we sustain it?
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Hell yes, we can sustain it. Chris Hall is one of the most highly-rated linemen in Texas, and if he's as enthusiastic about SMU as he sounds like, he can have a huge impact on recruiting by talking us up to his friends and the other top players around the area.
Even without that, these coaches have shown they can recruit. As these young players mature, their assets will be visible on Saturdays.

Nice - that's one way I DIDN'T need to take that comment.
Funny, though.

Rivals says Sulphur Springs safety Keenan Clayton (6-2, 205, 4.4) now has three offers, the latest of which came from Arizona. But he was at SMU's Junior Day, I hear.

Bio Notes: Earned first-team all-district honors as a safety in 2003. Also was named third-team all-state as a punt returner as a junior.

Schools in the Running: Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Baylor, LSU, SMU

Are we one of the schools that already has extended an offer?

Does anyone know if McKinney DT Lorenzo Jones (6-4, 290, 5.0) was there?
